Abstract

The invention relates to a charge air cooler for a reciprocating piston type combustion engine, especially for a two-stroke large diesel engine, wherein the charge air cooler comprises a cooler housing extending from a cooler inlet to a cooler outlet along a longitudinal axis, a cooler packet disposed in the cooler housing. The cooler inlet is connected with an outlet of a diffuser and the cooleroutlet is connected with a dewaterer of a reciprocating piston type combustion engine respectively, such that fresh air is introduced as supercharged air from an exhaust turbine supercharger to the intercooler by a diffuser under the running state of reciprocating piston type combustion engine. According to the invention, the supercharged air cooler includes at least two cooler packets for cooling supercharged air and separating condensation water from the supercharged air, which are separated from each other by a draining device to remove the condensation from the intercooler.
