Abstract
A multipole surge-protected arrester has an internally-wired encapsulated series of parallel gaps in a housing. The gaps have facing contact surfaces connected to outer terminals and have inner contact bars or bridges. The arrester also has an electronic control or trigger circuit on a wiring support. The trough-shaped housing has dividing walls accommodating the series gaps and terminals. An insulating plate on the trough opens upwards and has openings for spring contacts. The wiring is on top of the insulating plate. The spring contact elements form an electrical connection between contact points under the wiring support and the gap cover. Also claimed is an encapsulated surge protector with series gaps and two coaxial and partially overlapping main metal electrodes forming an arc chamber. One or both electrodes has an expansion chamber and a trigger electrode extending radially or axially.
