Abstract

The photosensor may have optical filters to cut out unwanted wavelengths, e.g. radiated by hot furnace walls. The system measures the intensity of radiation from the flame (A) which rises steeply with falling lambda number. Fuel-rich conditions give a luminous sooty flame. Wavelengths of greater than 500 nm may give a characteristic curve (B) with a trough at lambda equals 1. A third curve (C) is produced giving the degree of flicker or intensity of pulsations produced by the flame.
