Abstract
The method involves using a central unit with server with a first and second data bank, a transmitter/receiver unit for temporary news and an interface for radio exchange. A terminal has a position determining device for periodically determining the rough position data of the train and forwarding same so that the exact position of the train can be calculated by a correlation process in the central unit from the rough position data received and stored in the first data bank. This can then be sent to the interface for radio exchange. In the event of several stretches having normal distances which are less than the expected error in the rough measurement the train is located in a junction area whereby the stretch is determined with the drive plan stored in the first data bank. In the absence of a drive plan the stretch is determined by a frequency parameter.
