Abstract

A hinge (10) for supporting a heavy door on a support (14). The hinge has a main block (12) mounted on the support (14) and a pair of parallel plates (48, 50) mounted on the door. An extender link (24) and a rotation control link (32) are each pivotally mounted to the main block (12) and between the parallel plates (48, 50). When the door is in the fully closed position, the main block (12) supports the upper parallel plate (48). When the door is in the fully opened position, the extender link (24) is interlocked with the rotation control link (32) and supports the door. A compressible seal (68) is formed between the door and the support (14) by a sealant disposed about the perimeter of the door. The compressible seal (68) is not exposed to shear forces. <IMAGE>
