Abstract

The invention relates to a mechanism for letter files, having a baseplate (10), two sorting pins (12) which project vertically above the baseplate, a folding bar (18) which is limitedly pivotable between an open position and a closed position, a spring (24) which is tensioned on the baseplate (10) and acts against a bend (26) in the folding bar with prestress in the direction of the open position, and an actuating lever (22) which is mounted pivotably on an end shield (20), which is fixed to the baseplate, and acts against the bend (26) in the folding bar (18). In order to achieve a spring characteristic which is favourable for the opening and the closing operation whilst maintaining an economic construction, the spring (24) is produced from bent spring wire which is tensioned at its two free ends (30) in bores (32) in the baseplate, and which has two torsional portions (34) directed towards one another from the tensioning point (32) and a curved bending portion (38) which is bent at the mutually facing ends (36) of the torsional portions (34) in the direction of the bend (26) in the bar and rests against the latter. <IMAGE>
