Abstract

In known cutter drums for machines for crosscutting web material, in particular paper or cardboard webs, with an axial groove, in which there is clamped by means of clamping wedges a cutter with a radially projecting cutting edge, which cutter extends over the drum length and is rectangular in cross-section apart from the cutting edge, the cutter being adjustable by means of a row of adjustment elements, which engage on one side, cutting misses occur at very high cutting rates under certain operating conditions. In order to avoid these, the thickness of the cutter (5) is according to the invention less than 10 mm and the cutter (5) is clamped in the groove (3) between clamping wedges (8) and a strip (15) extending across the working width. The strip (15) has a radial height of at least half the cutter height and reaches from the groove bottom to above the adjustment screws (18) arranged on this side, but ends at a distance below the cutting edge of the cutter (5). <IMAGE>
