Process for charging refrigeration machines that work with a mixture of sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide.
The invention relates to a method for charging refrigerating machines that work with a refrigerant consisting of sulfur dioxide and carbon dioxide. Whereas when using carbon dioxide alone a high pressure is required, since a pressure of 75 atm. is necessary to liquefy the carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide has the disadvantage of attacking the metal parts of the system by oxidation.
EMI1.1
they remain in good condition for a long time and only maintain a low pressure in the system.
EMI1.2
the whole system is sent through. This also removes all moisture from the system, which is thus kept in a pure state.
The metal parts are also cleaned better than would be the case if the above mixture were poured in straight away. The carbonic acid first flushes all metal parts and the remainder of this gas remaining in the system due to the relatively high weight then serves to reduce the oxidizing effect of the sulfur dioxide. The plant runs on carbon dioxide at a pressure of approximately 22 atm. loaded so that this gas really gets into all parts and thus a thorough cleaning is achieved. whereupon the carbon dioxide is released and the loading and unloading are repeated several times. The line is thoroughly dried at the same time. Sulfur dioxide is only introduced before the start of operations.
The system can remain filled at atmospheric pressure even after flushing with carbon dioxide, whereupon the sulfur dioxide is introduced under pressure. This further reduces the possibility of rusting.
