Fig. 1 bzw.

J) einschliessen.

Turning tool with two cutting edges at an obtuse angle to one another.
The drawing shows in Fig. 1-6 the common forms of turning tools with two cutting edges standing at an obtuse angle in plan view or sections along the lines A-B of
1 and 3 and 5. FIGS. 1 and 2 show a steel with a flat ground face. The harmful
Compression work is quite high when cutting and manifests itself by hollowing out on the chest. This disadvantage is alleviated in the case of the steel shape shown in FIGS. 3 and 4 with a hollow ground breast surface.
The cutting edge running as a line, however, allows only less heat dissipation with a lower strength of the steel cutting edge. Hollow ground steels are therefore only used for chips with a smaller cross section
Consideration; Its area of application is primarily finer finishing work. 5 and 6 show a steel with a flat chest f, into which a groove fi is ground parallel to the front cutting edge at a greater distance behind the chest surface. This hollow fillet is intended to reduce the damaging upsetting work which increases significantly during heavy roughing work. Since a not insignificant part of the rear cutting edge cuts with larger feeds, the fillet must be set back so far that the cutting part of the rear cutting edge is retained.
However, the wide, straight surface strip that remains behind the cutting edge has the effect that the upsetting effects of the chip are only imperfectly mitigated. Since the chip material flows away perpendicular to the direction of the cutting edges, but also cuts the rear cutting edge over a greater length with larger feed rates, it flows together on the straight surface of the steel face where both cutting edges meet and exerts the main cutting pressure there. The upsetting effects are not reduced at all at the steel tip, the most dangerous part of the cutting edge.
These disadvantages are eliminated with the new steel. This is characterized in that narrow, flat breast surface strips run along both cutting edges, which enclose a sunk, likewise flat breast surface.
In the drawing, FIGS. 7-9 show a view, the floor plan and a section along the line AB of FIG. 8 perpendicular to the cutting edge of an embodiment of the new steel, FIGS. 10-12 another embodiment in a plan view and in sections according to the lines AB and CD of FIGS. 10 and 13 show a modification of this embodiment.
The steel according to FIGS. 7-9 has sufficient strength for the greatest stresses; Due to two cutting edges SI'82 that are effective along its entire length, it can be used for the greatest feed rates; the compression work during cutting is reduced to a minimum due to the narrow chest surface strip f behind the cutting edges and the remaining recessed part fi of the chest surface, and the resulting lower temperature the steel has a significantly longer service life than the old forms. Since the breast surface strip f along both cutting edges SI! S2 runs, it can be kept narrower than in the case of the shape according to FIG. 5, where it must be kept relatively wide with regard to the rear cutting edge.
In Fig. 10-13 a simpler embodiment of the broken chest surface is shown, in which the cutting edges Si, s2 also meet in a point S3 designed as a curvature with a suitable radius. Experience has shown that with low feed rates only the tips and the front

Cutting edge SI, it is sufficient to make the chest surface broken only behind the working parts, while the rear cutting edge merges directly into the cavity f1 with the elimination of the narrow surface strip f.
Another form of transition is shown in FIG. 13, which corresponds to FIG. 12, insofar as the rear edge S2 not only merges directly, as in FIG. 12, but also at the bottom into the recessed surface part.
This is achieved by sanding through the recessed surface part when sanding out the surface and sanding the rear edge more or less. With this design according to Fig. 10-13 it is achieved that the at least costly machining and laborious grinding out of the turning tool or its chest surface can be done in a shorter time and with less expense, without the high performance of the turning tool based on the broken formation of the chest surface is degraded.
