the grain size of the mass particles takes place, whereby the mass settles and dangerous cavities arise.
A proposal has now been made to shape such porous masses into a solid, compact mass by adding suitable binders to the container. However, this results in the disadvantage that if the container is carelessly handled, the porous mass will break and this will result in the formation of gaps in the interior of the mass. But there is also the shortcoming that such solid, porous masses easily become clogged, especially in the upper part of the container, as a result of which their usability is significantly reduced and theirs. Restoration requires cumbersome work.
According to the invention, the shortcomings outlined are now eliminated in that wood sawdust or sawdust are provided as the base body for the porous mass, which in order to reduce their fire hazard and increase their absorbency and swellability with acetone or another suitable extractant, such as. B. alcohol, ether, ketones, etc., are extracted. After the extraction, the sawdust is freed of any moisture by drying and brought into the container alone or in a mixture with likewise predried kieselguhr, pumice stone powder or other porous, incombustible bodies by means of ramming or vibrating mechanisms.
As a result of the swellability of the sawdust, the dry, firmly rammed mass receives such a tension after the introduction of the solution liquid in the container that a shift in position or
Changes in the individual particles forming the porous mass to one another are completely excluded.
By suitable selection of the grain size of the sawdust and the additives and their amount, it is in hand to keep the porosity of the mass within certain limits.
