 EMI1.1

 <Desc/Clms Page number 2>

   If the prismatic, refractive surfaces are provided on one side of the glass pane, the opposite side of the glass pane can be joined to the first-mentioned surfaces a; ribs or grooves f, which are expediently arranged at right angles and have a U or S-shaped cross-sectional shape as in FIG. 3 or of a cylindrical, flat, angular or other suitable shape, in order to reflect the light or to scatter it laterally . Instead, the refractive surfaces x can themselves be equipped with other surfaces similar to the aforementioned ribs or furrows f.

   The surface of the glass pane or the various surfaces thereof can be treated in whole or in part in any suitable way in order to disrupt or attenuate the light which passes through the surfaces.

   If desired, a glass provided with the specular reflector without refractive surfaces can also be used.

   An annular flat surface w can also be attached in a known manner to the edge of the glass pane or lens, with which the glass pane is mounted in the lamp housing.
