Device for connecting the dissolution electrode of a battery or a
Collector with the external circuit.
The invention relates to a method for connecting the dissolution electrode (e.g. an amalgamated zinc electrode) of an electric battery or a collector to the circuit.
The invention consists in that the electrode is connected to the external circuit by means of a wire or tape which is made of a metal that conducts electricity well and the surface of which is not attacked by the electrolyte used. The mentioned wire or tape is wound around the plate and grips it in different zones.
The drawing illustrates an embodiment of the invention. The soluble plate 1 has a wire 5 wound around it, which protrudes beyond the cell and is provided with a clamp 4 on this part. The wire 5 is a good conductor of electricity and is not attacked by the electrolyte in which the plate is immersed. He can z. B. platinum, gold, silver, or cadmium, if the electrolyte consists of sulfuric acid, or consist of any other metal if its surface is coated with a cover metal that is not attacked by the electrolyte like one of the aforementioned metals.
This way the electrolyte does not eat the wire and it does not remove the plate from the circuit.
Moreover, the turns of the wire in which the plate lies prevent the pieces from falling apart if the plate breaks. If the wire is in good contact with the surface of the plate, there is the further advantage that the potential is distributed in a much more even manner over the entire extent of the plate, whereby local currents are avoided.
Naturally, a band can also replace the wire 5.
