 EMI2.1

These plates form the thermoelectric element and are called generator plates. For example if you. assumes that the plates c are made of antimony and the

surfaces are heated that are only suitable for generating the electromotive force. All other surfaces of the generator plates are insulated by a heat protection layer e, and likewise these plates are only cooled at the point where it is necessary, namely at the contact surface.

Accordingly, one can reduce the heat loss through conduction to a minimum by giving each of the plates c and d a corresponding thickness for this purpose, depending on whether these plates are more or less good heat conductors.

In this arrangement, the plates c and cl can also consist of pounded powder; many bodies, because of their physical or chemical nature, can only be used in this form.

In the cell shown in the drawings, plates c and d are alias powder. Insulating U-shaped base strips '/' (Fig. 5) are inserted between the circuit boards a and b. The body is put in powder form into the cavity thus formed; if necessary, it can also be melted.

The circuit boards a can be heated in various ways. According to the drawing, these plates are penetrated by a pipe 9, in which the furnace

Air is transported through the vent of the warm gases.

In the case of small cells, the plates a. and b and cut out from a piece of metal. the cold plates protruding from the one side and dip hot plates from the other, as shown in FIG.

Each cell carries a current collector plate n and p at each end, to which one
