EMI1.1

EMI1.1
The spark voltage at the spark plugs of explosion engines is nowadays generally generated in a high-voltage coil which forms the secondary coil of a transformer and which is induced or excited by current surges in a primary coil provided with an interrupter and capacitor.
It is well known that switching operations, in particular the jumping over of the sparks on the spark plugs, endanger the end turns of the high-voltage coils because the self-induction prevents steep voltage waves from penetrating the winding, so that the insulation of the initial turns is broken through. To protect the coil, the outer turns of the coil have therefore been connected to metal parts which have sufficient capacity to absorb the voltage jumps occurring in the form of charges and gradually transfer them to the winding to be protected. The intrinsic capacitance of the metal parts must be significantly greater than that of the outer coil winding layers.
According to the invention, these metal parts are designed as a mechanically resistant jacket which surrounds the coils on the outside and in this way simultaneously serves to protect the coil from mechanical damage.
An exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention is shown in the drawing, in which a denotes the iron core, b denotes the primary and c denotes the secondary winding of the coil. The protective ring d is electrically connected to the last secondary winding and is slotted at e in order not to form a short-circuited turn.
Instead of laying the metal coating around the outside of the coil, the coil can be provided with it on the inside, or both inside and outside, in which case the two metal coatings are conductively connected to one another.
