EMI1.1
The subject matter of the invention is a process for the production of Y-pipes which are used to form pipe reversals. It consists in that a parallelepiped is formed from a solid body by pressing, with a rectangular cross-section rounded off in a semicircle on the sides. Cap wall thickness is cut out and formed at the other end into two parallel full cylinders, which are provided with two longitudinal bores, onto which pipes of suitable cross-section can be pushed and fastened by welding. The large recess at the other end of the Y-pipe is then closed in a known manner.
The method is shown in an exemplary embodiment in the drawing, namely FIGS. 1 and 2 show mutually perpendicular longitudinal sections, FIG. 3 a view from above and FIG. 4 a view from below of the preformed Y-pipe. FIG. 5 shows, as an application example, the placing and fastening of pipes, and FIG. 6 is a longitudinal section through a finished reversing piece with welded pipes.
The cross section of the base body a is a rectangle to which semicircular roundings adjoin. The body a is removed over the greater part of its length at b in such a way that the remaining wall thickness corresponds approximately to that of the finished cap or the pipes to be connected. At the end opposite the recess b, the body a is converted into two parallel, cylindrical or slightly conical stubs a with the outer diameter of the pipes or the connecting stubs. These nozzles are z. B. hollowed out by drilling and sharpened at the edges (Fig. 5), on which the correspondingly wide,

pass. After the attached tubes f have been welded, the mandrels are pulled out again and the cavity e is closed and welded in the die to form a suitable shape.
If the work piece is preformed by pressing, as is usually the case, then the longitudinal surfaces are arranged at a slight angle to one another.
The process according to the invention makes the manufacture of the finished products cheaper than those made from pipes. Another advantage can be seen in the fact that the middle part of the non-weakened body, which lies between the recess b and the future pipe socket and which forms the web of the finished reversing piece, makes welding unnecessary at this point.
