Process for the production of moldings made of ferrosilicon that can be dispatched and processed.

The parent patent relates to a method for the production of ferrosilicon shaped pieces that can be shipped and processed, whereby the ferrosilicon pieces are comminuted to approximately the size of a hazelnut and then, if necessary after adding a proportion of ferrosilicon which is already in the form of grit or dust, shaped into pieces with wet cement paste .

It has now been found that there are considerable advantages in crushing the ferrosilicon to be bound not in the cold state, but in glowing liquid form by granulating.

On the one hand, granulating is significantly more economical, on the other hand, there are considerable health benefits, because the raw materials used to produce ferrosilicon contain certain amounts of phosphorus and arsenic. When the ores are reduced in the electric furnace in the presence of coal, these form phosphides and arsenides. If the ferrosilicon is now crushed in a cold state, phosphorus and arsenic hydrogen, which are a serious health risk for the operating crew, are created from it under the influence of the air humidity. For this reason, one is forced to arrange extensive ventilation devices; nevertheless one does not achieve perfect conditions. These inconveniences can be prevented if the usual crushing is replaced by granulating the ferrosilicon.

The way of granulating is irrelevant here. You can z. B. atomize ferrosilicon in the way that blast furnace slag is granulated with the aid of rotating drums. In particular, granulation can also be effected with the aid of air, steam or water.
