Description

   <Desc/Clms Page number 1>

 EMI1.1
 der Verbrennungskraftmaschine gewonnen wird.

Procedure. for the operation of internal combustion engines and arrangement for carrying out the
Procedure.

The invention consists in that the charge air or the charge mixture is cooled by means of a refrigeration system before entering the combustion cylinder, the operating steam of which is obtained by the heat of the exhaust gases from the internal combustion engine. This improves both the efficiency of the internal combustion engine and increases its output.

In order to obtain the greatest power from an internal combustion engine with the best possible heat utilization, the largest possible loading weight of air or mixture must be fed to the cylinder. This requirement is met by good cooling of the cargo.

Cooling is also advantageously used in order to achieve an increase in output only from time to time, a task that ship operations, for example, perform.

According to the invention, this known operating method is made particularly useful in that, as already mentioned at the beginning, the exhaust gases from the internal combustion engine are used to generate steam, which serves as operating medium for cooling the charge. A steam chiller or an exhaust steam absorption machine is expediently used.

The cooling water required to cool the condenser of the refrigerating machine is expediently used as cooling water for the internal combustion engine, whereas the cooling water flowing out of the cooling jacket serves as feed water for the exhaust gas steam generator.

In the drawing, an arrangement is schematically illustrated which is suitable for carrying out the method.

Air or gas mixture is sucked in through the cooler a and is cooled down through the inlet valve b into the cylinder c of the internal combustion engine. The exhaust gases leave the cylinder through the outlet valve d, sweep through the exhaust gas evaporator e and then escape into the open after they have given off part of their heat to the water in the evaporator e, with steam being generated. This flows through the pipe f of the nozzle g to the vacuum refrigeration machine h, where it does the work that is required to cool the brine. The latter is forced by a pump i to continuously circulate through the cooler a.
