Process for the regeneration of vuleanized rubber.
The subject of the present invention is a method for regenerating vulcanized rubber (soft rubber, ebonite, etc.).
The characteristic of the process is that the body to be regenerated is heated up either in a vacuum or in the presence of inert gases, the heating process only being conducted so far that the material to be regenerated does not melt.
Another characteristic of the present invention is that the mass, which is heated to a high temperature in the manner described and which is to be regenerated, is subject to rapid cooling
EMI1.1
to remove harmful effects of the air.
The cooling can be effected in various ways, either by treatment with cold water, or with soda solution, or alkalis, or by spreading the highly heated mass over cold surfaces, e.g. B. over cold stones, and thereby puts them off.
An exemplary embodiment for the practical implementation of the method is described below.
The old, already used rubber articles are removed if necessary. first washed and
EMI1.2
boiled in a lye. The material treated in this way is heated in a vacuum or in an atmosphere of inert gases (carbon dioxide, nitrogen, etc.) to around 160 to 2200 ° C., carefully avoiding melting of the mass.
When a sufficient degree of heating has been reached, the cup is quickly cooled, e.g. B. by falling into cold water or onto a cold surface; z. B. cold stones etc.
After this treatment, if this should be desirable, the mass can also be dried, e.g. B. in a vacuum.
The mass obtained can then be rolled out in the usual way or converted into any shape.
After heating is complete and the mass has been quenched, the same can also be boiled, e.g. B. in a soda solution or in a lye, and is processed we: ter after drying.
