Die Platte 2 ist leicht auswechselbar und samt dem Kühlraum des Kolbens leicht zu reinigen. Ausserdem ist es möglich, die Platte auch an den vom Kühlwasser bespülten Flächen zu bearbeiten und dadurch die Kühlwirkung zu verbessern. Durch die Gewährleistung freier radialer Ausdehnung des heissen Kolbenbodens wird die Entstehung von Wärmespannungen vermieden. Trotzdem ist eine gute Abstützung der Platte gegen achsiale Beanspruchungen vorhanden.
Durch die Trennung in zwei Kühlräume wird erreicht, dass nicht der ganze Kolbenkühlraum von den die Platte stützenden Rippen durchsetzt wird, so dass dadurch nur eine teilweise Beeinflussung der Kühlwirkung des Kolbens eintreten ;iann. Ebenso werden dadurch diese Rippen kurz ausfallen, so dass sie schwächer gehalten werden kann. Sie können zudem an besonders geeignete Orte hin verlegt werden, was beim Hinabreichen auf den unteren Boden des Kühlraumes wegen der Anbringung der Zu-und Ableitungen des Kühlwassers, der Kernlöcher usw. nicht in gleichem Masse der Fall ist.
