The introduced charge is initially compressed somewhat in the annular space during the working thrust of the piston 3, 4. There are now a number of over-

the somewhat compressed charge into the explosion chamber of cylinder 1.
The entry of the charge into the cylinder through the intake port 11 is by sliding. sebieber 12 controlled, which is pressed under the action of a spring 13 down. By means of a slide rod 14, the opposite movement takes place from the crankshaft JJ, in that the piston-like part 16 of the rod 14 rests on the end of a rotatably mounted lever 17.
To make the machine run in reverse, a device is attached which is in connection with the pusher mechanism. This device also allows the slide mechanism to be brought into a central position so that the machine runs idle when @. B. goes downhill with a motor machine. The device consists of a lever 18,

In the position of the slide valve 12 shown in FIG. 4, the inlet channel 11 is closed, to be precise already shortly before the ignition period, so that re-ignition cannot take place. If an explosion has taken place, the piston 3, 4 is driven downwards and carries out its working stroke.
The new fuel charge, which enters the lower cylinder chamber through the check valve 9 of the inlet pipe 8, is, as already mentioned, compressed by the working stroke of the piston and now flows through the overflow channels 6 into the overflow chamber 7. The inlet channel 11 leading to the cylinder is thus controlled by the slide valve 12 and the overflow channels 6 of the overflow chamber 7 leading to the pump are controlled by the working piston 3, 4 itself.
A double compression takes place in the machine. The working stroke compresses the new charge in the pump chamber and the pressure stroke the charge in the explosion chamber. The pressure of the newly entered charge is increased by the heat that radiates from the cylinder wall. So there is a quick and reliable introduction of the fuel in the explosion chamber of the cylinder 2 instead.
When the piston has reached its maximum position (line 24 in FIGS. 1 and 2), ignition takes place and the expanding gases drive the piston downwards, which then performs the working stroke, as the arrow in FIG. 2 indicates. As soon as the top part 3 of the piston nui)
