the retort at the outlet end can be provided with wings or vanes for faster conveying of the vapors into the condenser.

The drawing shows an embodiment of the subject matter of the invention. 1 is a longitudinal section of the entire system, FIG. 2 is a section through the outlet pipe stubs of the retort, and FIG. 3 is a diagrammatic representation of the gas heater.

The retort consists of a cylindrical drum 1 through which pipes 2 running transversely to its axis for guiding the fire gases. The spaces 3 of the drum 1 lying between the tubes are filled with the material to be charred or distilled. These rooms are in free connection with each other. The wall of the retort is provided with filling and emptying openings 4 at appropriate points, which are closed by covers 5.

The drum 1 is closed at one end by a plate 6, while pipe sockets 7 lead from the other end through the walling 8 of the retort to the condenser 9. The number of nozzles 7 can be arbitrary, in the drawing (FIG. 2) five nozzles are shown, one of which lies in the drum axis, while the remaining four surround the central nozzle concentrically.

The inlet end of the nozzle 7 can be closed by sieves, grates or the like in order to prevent the material in the retort from entering the nozzle.
