 EMI1.1

 EMI1.2

 EMI1.1

 EMI1.2
The process uses suitable binders dissolved in water, such as, for example, the aqueous solution of casein or caseinate curable by formaldehyde
According to the present method, the cork meal is mixed with the solution of the binding agent in a suitable concentration and amount so that the individual grains are provided with a uniform coating of binding agent. The mass is then pressed into blocks in molds under the appropriate pressure. The blocks with the molds are placed in cast-iron containers with steam heating tubes - exposed to the effect of the highest possible vacuum.

Under the influence of the latter, the air contained in it emerges from the cork grist, whereby the individual grains of the grist due to the yolum increase lie closer to one another or the intermediate 'that was previously filled with air.
 EMI1.3
as a result, the whole mass is cemented to a certain extent. While maintaining the vacuum, the artificial cork blocks are now heated slowly increasing the temperature, expediently in such a way that a maximum temperature of about 70 to 80 ° C is reached in about five to six days. Under these circumstances there is a very gradual, complete drying of the mass and solidification of the binding agent used in the mass, which after the end of the process has the nature of the natural cork when cutting through.

The artificial cork bodies obtained in this way have the light color of natural cork, to which they are otherwise similar; they can be processed like the latter, cut into plugs, etc. The objects made from this synthetic cork are elastic and have a specific weight.
