is, however, that the slag does not come into contact with highly heated water from the outset, but that the slag only gradually brings the water to a relatively high temperature. Even with the previously known granulation process of the slag, cold water is regularly combined with the slag initiated because the slag takes a large part of the water with it and has to continuously allow water to flow. This freshly flowing water
 EMI2.1
previously known processes the introduced slag regularly comes into contact with cold water.

On the other hand, the essence of the invention consists in the fact that the slag immediately meets hot water at a temperature that is very close to evaporation, so that steam can immediately form when the molten slag is deposited on the water , and above all that the slag at the point of contact remains soft and quenching, as before, is avoided. Or the slag is only brought together with steam in the manner described.

After the expansion has taken place, the foamy material can be conveyed further through a bucket elevator or in another suitable manner.

PATENT. PATENT. CLAIM : Process for solidifying liquid slag in a highly porous manner, characterized in that for the most uniform possible conversion of the entire amount of slag into porous and voluminous EMI2.2 or that the slag is allowed to flow over an inclined, sieve-like perforated surface, through the holes of which steam rises from below, which penetrates the slag from below and expands it into a large, porous mass.
