Trockentrommel.

Drying drum.
The new drying drum is designed for drying highly flammable or dusty substances.
The substances mentioned are dried in the drying drum by dividing the heat carrier (fire gases or hot air), as is already known, into two streams before entering the drying drum, one of which flows through the drying drum and acts directly on the material to be dried , while the other stream passes through a radiator and transfers its heat indirectly to the dry material.
The essence of the invention is to dry the substances mentioned as possible without the risk of ignition with high temperatures of the heat transfer medium.
This is to be achieved in that the heating element d is designed to be shorter than the actual drum, to be relocated towards the exit end of the drum and only to be extended by one or more tubes to the entry side.
The new drying drum is shown in longitudinal section on the drawing. f is a furnace into which the actual drying drum protrudes, s is a funnel for the introduction of the wet material to be dried, d is a heating element which is shorter than the actual drying drum and through a pipe after the furnace f or after the funnel 8 v is extended. g is a stationary housing at the end of the rotating drying drum, h is a fan, i, k and q its connection

chimney. The rotating drying drum is provided with race rings b and rollers c. p is a cavity which is formed by the walls o and the actual drying drum.
This drying drum works as follows:
The fresh material introduced at 8 is grasped by the blades of the rotating drying drum, pushed up, divided by the blades and dropped down again. The blades (are set in such a way that they simultaneously convey the material to be dried to the other end of the drum, where it then finally falls into the auger u.
The fan h sucks hot gases from the furnace f through the drying drum in two streams. One stream goes through the pipe v and the radiator d and gives off its heat indirectly to the material to be dried. The other gas flow passes through the actual drying drum, comes into contact with the material to be dried and releases its own
EMI1.2
As a result of the known division of the heat carrier, both streams cool down unequally quickly, namely the stream that passes through the drying drum cools more rapidly than that that passes through the pipe v and the radiator d.
Due to the short arrangement of the heating element d, a large free space is created in the first part of the drying drum where the very wet material is located. The hot fire gases now flow through this large free space at low speed and cool down quickly on the wet material to be dried and can then later no longer cause inflammation on the already pre-dried goods.
Any sparks entrained from the furnace f fall into the free space as a result of the low speed of the fire gases and are extinguished by the very wet dry material, so that these sparks cannot ignite the dry material either.
Both gas streams are then pressed into the cavity p by the ventilator in the pipeline q, then brush IH and the outer jacket of the drying drum and finally reach the outside through the exhaust vent r.
