Method for producing a plastic mass.
The invention relates to a method for producing a plastic mass from glue with suitable additives, such as glycerine, wax or the like, as well as fillers.
The invention consists in using crystallized, powdered plaster of paris or double spar as a filler instead of the previously usual substances. This has the advantage that a product is obtained which corresponds to celluloid in its external properties, in particular transparency, but has the good properties of the glue mass, namely its non-flammability, easy processing, hardness and elasticity. By a suitable choice of the proportions you have it in hand to produce a product which can be poured into sensitive molds and without the use of pressure, and depending on the desired composition of the mass, in particular according to the amount of wax added, both blunt and can get shiny surfaces.
In addition, the mass has the advantage that, if the proportions are correctly selected, it shrinks uniformly when it dries out without any deformations occurring.
The method can for example be carried out as follows: 1 kg of glue

Now about 300 to 500 g of unfired, i.e. H. crystallized, powdered gypsum or double spar and 25 9 Magnesia usta mixed with about 300 to 500 g of water and added to the glue solution.
The solution is reheated to 60 "C. Then about 250 to 400 9 glycerine and 50 to 75 9 wax or wax-like bodies (Steariv,

The resulting thick, transparent, warm mass can now either be poured into casting molds and the objects to be made from it can be fixed immediately after cooling and hardening by immersion in a tanning solution (for example formaldehyde or Epsom salt solution), i.e. b.
insoluble, or you can first shape plates or the like in stock or as a commercial item, which, after they have cooled down and hardened, can later be dissolved and further processed in order to then fix them permanently, but you can also use the warm ones Add the hardening agent to the paste-like mass before molding and cooling. H of the shape comes into effect while the mass is hardening. If appropriate, suitable dyes can also be added to the composition during production.
