<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The invention relates to a circuit arrangement for preventing brush problems in slip ring machines due to strongly fluctuating loads, the rotor current being transmitted via brushes and slip rings.
Carbon brushes are used for power transmission in both commutators and slip rings in electrical machines. Commutators or slip rings are constantly worn during operation and must be maintained.
With regard to the current carrying capacity and the brush contact pressure, a distinction must be made as to whether the brush is used as a commutator brush or as a grinding brush. In both cases, there is usually a problem with brush vibration.
A brush sliding on slip rings is naturally able to withstand a much higher current than a commutator brush, since it is under mechanically and electrically more favorable conditions. Since it does not have to run over lamella bars. it can also be subjected to a higher contact pressure than a brush sliding on a commutator.
The right choice of brush material is no problem for the operator. He only needs to keep the type of brush supplied with the machine. Of course, new brushes are on the curves of the before they are used.
Grind in the slip ring surface. The mechanical difficulties
The use of carbon brushes for power take-over has been largely solved recently - even the vibration problem of the brushes - and is practically no longer a problem these days.
However, an electrical problem, as a result of which further mechanical and electrical difficulties arise, has not yet been solved.
This is about the problem that carbon brushes have the property of only working properly in a relatively small load range. This work area
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
is given by the limits of the current carrying capacity of the brushes. Usually is
EMI2.1
However, the minimum permissible current density is undershot, which leads to damage to the brushes and slip rings, as well as increased brush wear.
This problem is currently being countered with manual brush lifting or with automatic brush lifting devices. This means that split brush carriers are used - the entirety of the brush carriers is designed for the maximum current - which makes it possible to lift one or more brush carrier parts from the slip rings if the current carrying capacity of the brushes falls below the minimum. Although some types of brush lifters are relatively well designed, this type of problem solving is unsatisfactory. Above all, it is not possible with these devices to take account of rapidly changing load cycles with adequate speed.
The object of the invention is therefore to design an arrangement which ensures. that the brush wear does not exceed the regular abrasion rate when falling below or with rapidly changing load cases.
The object is achieved by the invention. This is characterized in that the rotor winding is fed via a Krcisstromiransfbrmator, the secondary

This makes it possible, for the first time, to adjust the current density on the brushes by designing the circuit arrangement according to the invention in such a way that only the minimal brush abrasion occurs during the entire operating time of a machine.
The invention will now be explained in more detail using an exemplary embodiment shown in the drawing. The circuit arrangement according to the invention is applied to a generator.
The figure shows a three-phase generator designed as a slip ring machine (1). whose rotor winding (2), which is designed as an excitation winding, is connected to two slip rings (3, 4). The rotor winding (2) is fed via a circular current transformer (5), the secondary winding phases (7a, 7b) of which each have a symmetrical center tap (8a. 8b), which is connected to an excitation

trained are connected.
This terminating component (14) of the rotor circuit is fed via a three-phase transformer (15). Each slip ring (3, 4) is assigned an evenly divided brush holder (3a and 3b as well as 4a and 4b): Start and end of winding of a secondary winding strand (7 a, 7b) are each with half the number of brush holder parts (4a and 4b, 3a and 3b) of the respectively assigned slip ring (4. 3) are conductively connected.

(5) is designed as a contactor via on-off contacts (9a. 9b. 9c. 9d)
EMI4.1
Connection of the center tap of one of the two secondary winding strands (7a or rib), in the present example it is the center tap (8b) of the secondary winding strand (7b), is led to the termination component (14) of the rotor circuit, which is designed as a DC excitation source, via a current measuring device (13). This current measuring device (13) informs a limit indicator (12)
EMI4.2
Switching device (9) can be controlled by the limit indicator (12) by means of the control coil (1 Ob).
In the de-energized operating state, the rotor current flows over the center taps (8a, 8b) of the circular current transformer (5) and then halves over the winding halves of the secondary winding strands (Ta, 7b). If the limit indicator (12) registers that the rotor current falls below the lower limit, an excited operating state occurs. by closing the control circuit (10a, 10b), he causes the control coil (1 Ob) to pick up and the on-off contacts (9a, 9b.
9c. 9d) the primary winding strands (6a, 6b) of the circular current transformer (5) are connected to the AC voltage source (16a. 16b). As a result of this process, an alternating current is superimposed in the secondary winding phases (Ta. Tb) of the circulating current transformer (5) on the direct current supplied by the excitation direct voltage source (14) of the rotor circuit. A mixed or wave current is thus created, the total effective value of which means the effective current density in the brushes is increased to the optimum working range.
