  Process for the production of metallic threads for electric light bulbs.

   Patent No. 50371 describes a process for the production of raw metal threads for electrical glow lamps in a continuous length, in which different amounts of current are gradually passed through each part of the thread while it is continuously moved in the longitudinal direction.

   It has now been found that if a single-phase alternating current is sent through the thread material when carrying out the method, the thread is alternately heated and cooled, as a result of which it alternately expands and contracts, which often results in breakage during the treatment. According to the present invention, multiphase currents are brought into action on the different parts of the thread in such a way that the total length of the part of the thread being treated remains approximately constant, so that no significantly greater stress is exerted on the thread, n Implementation of the process direct current is used.

   In the drawing, a suitable device for performing the method is shown schematically.

   As already described in the parent patent, the raw thread 1 passes after its exit from the press through a number of current connection pieces 3, 4, -5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, which preferably consist of perforated plates whose parts adjacent to the opening are amalgamated and the openings of which are closed by mercury bodies 10. which are obtained in the openings by capillary action and surface tension and whose surfaces are preferably concave.

   The current connection pieces 3, 4 and 5 are sintered in series with lamps 11 or 12 and 13 or with any other current control devices on the one Pou
Two-phase current source 14 connected, while the other pole of the same phase is connected to the current connection device 6; an autotransformer 1 /; or another suitable one
 EMI1.1

 EMI1.2
   threads can, as assumed for the device shown, be treated in the air, while others are preferably to be treated in a non-oxidizable atmosphere;

   the procedure remains exactly the same for the rest.

 limited, but the currents can be selected in such a way that three or more phases also act on the thread.
