Process for obtaining nitrogen and carbon dioxide from combustion gases.
The present invention aims at the recovery of nitrogen and carbonic acid from combustion gases. A known method achieves this goal in such a way that generator gases are burned by secondary air and passed over a mixture of a metal with a metal oxide, with any unburned gas components on the metal oxide burning to carbonic acid and water, while the metal is used to remove the atmospheric oxygen. By regulating the air flow it can be achieved that a mixture consisting only of nitrogen and carbon dioxide escapes.
Because if oxygen also appears in the gas obtained, which indicates an extensive conversion of the metal into metal oxide, the air supply is throttled for a while, whereby gases with a reducing effect arise, which return the metal oxide formed to metal.

reduced that the heat of combustion after this process z. B. for an uninterruptible steam generation can only be used technically imperfectly.
On the other hand, the present method allows full utilization of the heat of combustion. This consists in that combustion gases of any kind, after being fed and mixed with a reducing gas or vapor stream, are passed over CIl Cu 0 as a contact substance, it being irrelevant whether one starts with CM or rill 0 or a mixture of both. With this method it is possible to use the heat of the combustion gases. Only then is the reduction current fed to the extent required by the oxygen content of the combustion gases. The combustion process in the furnace is therefore, which is of technical importance, completely independent of the processes that take place after the addition of the carbon-containing products.
The gases leaving the contact furnace now consist of nitrogen, carbonic acid and water vapor. The separation of the nitrogen from the carbonic acid takes place after the condensation of the water by generally customary methods.
