<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

Initially not sufficiently shock-mitigating, but then soon disintegrates into grus. As a result of the loss of formaldehyde occurs even at a lower temperature increase, e.g. B. as a result of the friction of the hollow tubes BEZW. Protective sheaths result in heating, melting and rendering the mass unusable.
Finally, compositions made from formalin gelatine without the addition of glycerin are completely useless for the purposes in question, because such a formalin composition without the addition of glycerin starts to freeze at 00 0.
The mass produced by the present process is so soft and elastic that it reacts to any pressure, but immediately resumes its original shape; Despite its softness, the mass is so resistant that it does not melt when the temperature increases due to the friction while driving and that this state of infusibility remains constant with large softness and no over-hardening can take place, which would result in the mass becoming short and brittle.
This constancy of softness and elasticity, however, is achieved through the absence of the chromates, through the presence of tannin in not too great an amount and especially of salicylic acid in sufficient amounts, which slowly decompose on the lysoform, but especially on the hexamethylenetetramine and so the otherwise decreasing effect The elasticity and infusibility of the gejatinous mass is kept constant; In addition, however, salicylic acid has the property of keeping the treated gelatin permanently soft and preventing the mass from becoming hard or. to prevent entirely.
The freshly produced mass is so liquid when heated that it can be pressed into any hose or shape under any pressure, depending on the requirements to be met. but soon becomes so resistant that it no longer melts when heated within the possible limits without over-hardening. This very excellent property
EMI2.1
lexamethylenetetramine takes effect, just enough to produce the necessary elasticity and infusibility, and that during use, when warming occurs, the effect of the free acids replaces the used effect, while salicylic acid in particular simultaneously ensures the constancy of the Softness.
Only such a mass, however, is able to replace extremely elastic and flexible compressed air, while all hard, rubber-like compositions, similar to solid rubber tires, collide while driving and are therefore not usable.
As has been established through experiments. the new mass is also advantageous for insulation purposes, in that it can be used both as an electrical and as a heat and cold insulation means.
