Equipment for the reduction of iron ores.
The invention relates to a device for the production of commercial iron and steel from iron oxide ores, which consists of a reduction furnace and a gas generator for generating the hot reducing gases.
The purpose of the invention is to set up the gas generator in such a way that it remains continuously operational despite the effects of great heat and repairs are impossible. According to the invention, this is achieved in that the walls of the gas generator that are most exposed to the hot gases, as well as the neck connecting the latter to the reduction furnace, are made of carbonaceous material.
The drawing shows an exemplary embodiment of the subject matter of the invention, partially in section.
The gas generator 4 has an exhaust duct or neck 5 for the gases and vapors that develop. The fuel, for example bituminous coal, enters the gas generator through a bell valve 6, while the air is introduced through one or more nozzles 7. The ash or slag originating from the fuel is drawn off through a channel 8. The gas generator is for the most part lined with suitable heat-resistant stones, but those parts which are exposed to the greatest heat, especially the channel or neck 6 and the adjoining parts of the gas generator, are made of carbonaceous materials, which are practically hot carbonic acid gases of the furnace is infusible.
The carbonaceous material that is used for the neck or channel 5 and the adjacent parts of the gas generator can be solid graphite blocks or a mixture of 1 per o / o powdered graphite and 9 o / o Zer (leached coke with a suitable Binding agents, for example coal tar .. This mixture is brought into a solid form under hydraulic pressure and then baked.
The reduction furnace 9, 10 abuts against the mouth of the channel 5 in a gas-tight manner and is carried by rollers in the usual manner. The upper end of the cylinder 10 enters the lower part of a fixed ore feed hopper 11.
Under the lower open end of the cylinder. ' a closed space 17 is provided, in which the carriage can accommodate the drained from the cylinder Y.
Material can run.
