Process for increasing the durability of filter cloths.

It is an inconvenience that is felt to be very disadvantageous in practice that when filtering by means of filter presses, the filter cloths become brittle and tear particularly quickly at the edge protruding above the frame, i.e. at points that are not stressed during filtration. This can easily be explained by the fact that the filtering liquid also sucks through to the edge located outside the frame, where it does not, since the edge is not washed out during the subsequent washing of the filter
 EMI1.1
in the case of acidic or alkaline solutions, which become more concentrated when the cloth dries, the fibers of the cloths in a short time, whereby the simultaneous action of the air accelerates the destruction.
 EMI1.2
miscible, the cloth fiber preservative agent is impregnated.

For example, tar, linseed oil, varnish, varnish and the like can be used as such. Filter cloths treated in this way have a much longer shelf life.

There are probably two German imperial patents known, Kr. 10Gï28 and dz, which are intended to seal filter plates, which is achieved by the filter plates on their cut surface and their edge with a mass consisting of binding agents such as collodion, rubber, gutta-percha, Chrome gelatine and the like. Prepared cork powder or that the plate edge is sealed with a mixture of 75% paraffin, 25% vaseline and a little castor oil.

It is readily apparent that the primary purpose here is to seal the filter chambers and filter plates in order to avoid losses of filter material.

In the present invention, however, it is a question of the impregnation of filter cloths for the purpose of increasing their durability.
