The object, such as a wire, now consists of pure nickel on the inside, but on the surface of an alloy of platinum and nickel that is becoming increasingly rich in platinum.
After the treatment in the third mixed electrolyte, it is coated with a thin layer of pure platinum, which is then again annealed in hydrogen at 1000 to 1100 °. This coating with pure platinum and annealing after each coating is repeated several times depending on the desired thickness of the platinum coating.
The idea of welding galvanic deposits onto the base metal by annealing in a reducing atmosphere is known per se (cf. German patents No. 132614 and 175937 and British patent No. 15037 A. D. 1903). The use of this idea in platinum plating in connection with the other measures given above results in a new and valuable technical product that is a platinum substitute for those cases in which since then only pure platinum or alloys of platinum metals have been used.
