<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
<Desc/Clms Page number 5>
<Desc/Clms Page number 6>

The invention relates to a speed controller for a fuel injection pump for an internal combustion engine, with a centrifugal weight device with a first alignment device which brings about a positive adjustment, with a spring-loaded control lever which can be actuated by a control sleeve of the centrifugal weight device and which acts on a quantity control element of the fuel injection pump as a function of the speed, and with one negative adjustment effecting second adjustment device.
In vehicle diesel internal combustion engines, the adjustment enables an optimal use of the engine torque. Depending on the speed, the injection rate is temporarily increased or decreased, as a result of which the injected fuel rate is adapted to the actual demand. The fuel requirement of the uncharged diesel engine generally decreases with increasing engine speed, which is due to the lower relative air throughput, thermal limit conditions and changing mixture formation. Too much injected fuel would cause smoke or overheat in the engine. In order to avoid this, regulators for fuel injection pumps have a matching device which allows a positive matching of the injected fuel rate to the actual demand in the matching area.
The flow rate decreases with increasing speed, and increases with falling speed.
In internal combustion engines with exhaust gas turbochargers with a higher degree of supercharging, however, the fuel requirement for full load increases so much in the lower speed range that the natural increase in the delivery rate of the injection pump is no longer sufficient. Depending on the speed or the boost pressure, a negative adjustment must be carried out here, in which the delivery rate is increased as the speed increases.
From DE 25 26 148 Al a control device for the fuel supply of injection internal combustion engines is known, in which intervention on the one hand depending on the charge air pressure and on the other hand by means of a centrifugal force-adjusted regulator sleeve in the speed controller via two corresponding cam plates in order to achieve an associated adjustment. This is done by means of two

other associated curves made, the pin is connected to an adjusting lever, so that a negative adjustment with a limited degree of freedom can be achieved according to the design of the curves. However, an additional activation of parameters, for example the setting of a starting additional quantity, is difficult or is only possible with increased design effort.
A disadvantage is the lack of decoupling of the positive and the negative alignment.
From DE 40 01 789 Cl a mechanical speed controller with an integrated positive adjustment in the upper speed range and a negative adjustment in the lower speed range is known. The negative adjustment is brought about by a counterstop on an articulated fork connected to a quantity control element of the fuel injection pump, which counterstop forms a stop track for the full-load stop which slides depending on the speed and is attached to a pivotable bracket. The full load stop is deactivated during the starting process.
From DE 39 43 392 A1 a speed controller of a fuel injection pump with a rocker arm is known, over which a negative adjustment can be achieved over a certain speed range directly above the idling speed. The rocker arm is mounted on a control sleeve of the centrifugal weight device and interacts with an encoder stop, so that within a certain speed range a negative adjustment is achieved by pivoting the control lever, whereby this speed range is limited upwards by the load set by an adjusting lever. This causes a selector lever to be pivoted via the control lever and a setting, as a result of which a deflection lever can be pivoted in the direction of relatively increasing fuel increase per speed increase.
The deflection lever is coupled at its one end to a socket bolt of the flyweight device and acts on a quantity control element of the fuel injection pump via an intermediate lever. The universally applicable speed controller has a strong decoupling between positive and negative adjustment, but has the disadvantage of a high level of design complexity and a large number of individual parts.
It is the object of the invention to implement a positive and negative adjustment in the simplest possible manner in a speed controller of the type mentioned at the beginning.
This is achieved according to the invention in that the second adjustment device preferably has a spring-loaded bearing mounted on the regulator lever
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
has designed as a rocker arm adjustment lever, on one lever arm, the regulator sleeve of the flyweight device acts and the other lever arm acts on the quantity control element. As a result, the number of parts can be limited to a minimum, so that the design effort is limited.
It is preferably provided that the second adjustment device has a movement limiting device which limits the angle of rotation of the adjustment lever relative to the controller lever to a predefined maximum adjustment angle. The range of negative adjustment is essentially determined by the movement limiting device.
In a very simple embodiment it is provided that the movement limiting device consists of at least one limiting pin which is displaceably arranged in an elongated hole, the elongated hole and limiting pin being formed by different parts from the group of control levers and adjusting levers, and preferably the elongated hole being arranged in the adjusting lever and the limiting pin is formed by the control lever.
A very compact design is possible if the lever arm of the leveling lever, which acts on the quantity control element, is connected to the control lever via the leveling spring.
The regulator sleeve of the flyweight device acts on the force application surfaces of the regulator lever and the adjustment lever. In order to achieve a negative adjustment, the force application surface of the adjustment lever in the rest position projects beyond the force application surface of the regulator lever towards the control sleeve by a predefined adjustment path. The adjustment lever mounted on the control lever is pulled towards the stop by the adjustment spring in the articulation point of the volume control element towards the fuel injection pump. Both the adjustment lever and the regulator lever are kept in balance by the regulator spring via a full load stop and the regulator sleeve with the flyweights of the flyweight device.
If the engine speed drops, the regulator sleeve is moved in the direction of the lower speed. After the control lever rests on the full load stop, the force application surface of the regulator lever to the regulator sleeve is released, whereby the adjusting spring deflects the adjustment lever, while the force application surface of the adjustment lever continues to follow the movement of the regulator sleeve.
This enables a negative adjustment of the injection quantity in the lower speed range.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
In order to enable a start adjustment at the start, it is provided that the regulator lever is designed in two parts and consists of a first part connected to a regulator spring and a second part connected to the adjustment lever, the first and the second part being relative to one another by a predefined one Start adjustment angles are rotatable.
The first and the second part are biased in the direction of increased injection quantity by a start adjustment spring. After starting, the second part kinks in relation to the first part by the start adjustment angle in the direction of lower injection, which results in a positive start adjustment.
A compact but nevertheless robust construction results if the control lever and / or the adjustment lever is designed as a fork lever in the area of the connection with the centrifugal weight device.
The invention is explained in more detail below with reference to the figures.
1 shows the speed controller according to the invention in a highly simplified schematic representation, FIG. 2 shows the control lever and adjusting lever of the speed controller in a side view, FIG. 3 shows the controller lever and adjusting lever in a top view, FIG. 4 shows the controller lever and adjusting lever in an oblique view, and FIG. 5 a diagram with governing characteristics.
Fig. 1 shows a simplified schematic representation of a speed controller 1, elements not essential to the invention, such as setting devices, start adjustment u. Like., For the sake of clarity are not shown.
The speed controller 1 has a flyweight device 2 with flyweights 3 which are driven by a controller drive wheel 4. The flyweights 3 act on a regulator sleeve 5 and move it along the axis 6. The speed regulator 1 has a first adjustment device 7 with a regulator lever 8 which is biased in the direction of the regulator sleeve 5 by the regulator spring 9. A positive adjustment of the injection quantity is possible via the first adjustment device 7, i. that is, as the speed increases, the quantity control member 10 of a fuel injection pump, not shown, is deflected in the direction of "-" lower injection quantities.
The speed controller 1 also has a second adjustment device 11 with an adjustment lever 12 designed as a rocker arm, which is mounted on the controller lever 8.
Both the regulator lever 8 and the adjustment lever 12 each have a force application surface 14, 15 for the regulator sleeve 5. Storage 13
<Desc / Clms Page number 5>
of the adjustment lever 12 is arranged between the force application surface 14 of the regulator lever 8 and the quantity control element. The adjustment lever 12 is shown with dashed lines in its rest position and dotted in its deflected position in Fig. 1.
Reference number 16 denotes a preselectable full load stop for the control lever 8.
In order to limit the angle of rotation of the adjustment lever 12 relative to the control lever 8, a movement limiting device 17 is provided, which consists of an elongated hole 19 and a pin 20. The elongated hole 19 can, for example, be arranged in the adjustment lever 12 and the pin 20 can be formed by the regulator lever 8.
The regulator lever 8 and the adjustment lever 12 are connected to one another via an adjustment spring 21, which prestresses the adjustment lever 12 in the direction of the quantity control element.
The movement limiting device 17 is designed such that, in the rest position shown in FIG. 1, the control lever 8 and the adjustment lever 12 are rotated relative to one another by a maximum angle a and the force application surface 15 of the adjustment lever 12 relative to the force application surface 14 of the regulator lever 8 is one negative Alignment defining path xo protrudes in the direction of the regulator sleeve 5. The path xo corresponds to the path Xi of the quantity control element in accordance with the ratio of the two lever arms 12a, 12b of the adjusting lever 12.
If the engine speed n is now increased, the regulator sleeve 5 moves in the direction of arrow 22 and deflects the adjustment lever 12 by the path Xo until the regulator sleeve 5 comes to rest on the force application surface 14 of the regulator lever 8. As a result of this deflection, the quantity control element 10 is displaced in the direction “+” by the distance Xi and the injection quantity is thus increased in the lower speed range. As soon as the regulator sleeve 5 also abuts the force application surface 14 of the regulator lever 8, the negative adjustment ends and both levers 8 and 12 are moved synchronously in the direction “-” of the quantity control lever 10, whereby a positive adjustment is effected in accordance with the lever ratio of the regulator lever 8.
Conversely, if the engine speed drops, the regulator sleeve will decrease in the direction of the arrow 22 in the direction of the lower speed. After the regulator lever 8 rests on the full-load stop 16, the regulator sleeve 5 following and pulled by the adjustment spring 21 lies

Adjustment lever 12, whereby the quantity control member 10 is displaced in the direction of a lower injection quantity.
2, 3 and 4, a control lever 8 including adjustment lever 12 is shown. In this exemplary embodiment, the regulator lever 8 is made in two parts and consists of a first fork-shaped part 8a connected to the regulator spring 9 and a second fork-shaped part 8b articulated to the latter via a bearing 8 ′. The adjustment lever 12 is mounted on the second part 8b.
The two-part design of the regulator lever 8 ensures a start adjustment to provide the higher starting injection quantity in a simple manner. The start alignment device is indicated with reference number 22. In order to achieve the start alignment, the first part 8a has an elongated hole 23, in which a peg-shaped extension 13a of the bearing 13 of the second part 8b of the regulator lever 8 can be moved. The first part 8a and the second part 8b of the control lever 8 are rotated with respect to one another, the second part 8b together with the adjustment lever 12 being biased by the start adjustment spring 24 in the direction “+” of larger injection quantities.
5 shows a characteristic diagram of the controller according to the invention, the path x of the quantity control member 10 for the full load being plotted against the speed n. Reference symbol a denotes the area of the start adjustment, b the area of the negative adjustment and c the area of the positive adjustment.
The speed controller according to the invention is particularly suitable for diesel engines with plug-in pumps driven directly by the camshaft or for injection pumps without a built-in controller.
