<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The invention relates to a method for producing synthesis gas for ammonia synthesis by steam reforming of natural gas, which is subjected to an exothermic reforming reaction at a given process pressure in a primary reformer with the supply of water vapor of an endothermic and in a secondary reformer under supply of compressed process air before the synthesis gas is recovered and compressed from the reformed raw gas by converting and purifying, wherein the primary reformer is heated with a partial flow of the natural gas.
In order to produce the required for an ammonia synthesis, hydrogen-containing synthesis gas, it is assumed to an increasing extent of natural gas, which is subjected to a desulfurization of steam reforming. For this purpose, the natural gas is subjected to a given process pressure, for example between 20 and 40 bar at 750 to 900 C in a primary reformer with the supply of water to an endothermic and then in a secondary reformer under supply of compressed process air an exothermic reforming reaction, then converted and purified before the synthesis gas thus obtained is compressed. For heating the primary reformer, a partial flow of the natural gas, namely about 25 to 30%, is burned in burners of the primary reformer.
The hot crude gas is cooled after the exothermic reforming by a steam generation. The recovered water vapor is expanded in condensing steam turbines, with the help of which compressor stages are driven on the one hand for the synthesis gas and on the other hand for the process air. The steam required for the steam reforming is taken from a turbine tap having a pressure adapted to the process pressure, while the remaining water vapor has to be expanded to provide the energy required for the compression of the synthesis gas and the process air so that an economic energy yield of the exhaust steam is no longer possible , The exhaust steam is therefore condensed and the heat of condensation is released unused to the environment.
The invention is thus based on the object, a method of the type described in such a way that the energy used can be advantageously used in particular for driving the compressor stage for the process air and / or the synthesis gas.
The invention achieves the stated object in that the overpressure of at least the natural gas partial flow for the heating for the compression of the process air, the synthesis gas and / or the natural gas flow for the reforming is processed.
Since the natural gas required for the production of the synthesis gas is generally available at a pressure which corresponds at least to the process pressure and the required for the heating of the primary reformer pressure of the hereby branched natural gas partial stream compared to the process pressure is small, the overpressure of this natural gas partial stream especially for Be processed compression of the process air and / or the synthesis gas. In the event that the available natural gas is supplied at a pressure below the required process pressure, the energy that is obtained from the overpressure of the natural gas partial stream for heating, also used to compress the required for reforming natural gas stream to the required process pressure become.
Due to this circumstance, it becomes possible to dispense at least partially with the energy from the highly stressed water vapor for the compression of the process air and / or the synthesis gas. Even if it becomes necessary to use a steam turbine as an additional drive for a compressor stage of the process air and / or the synthesis gas, because of the reduced energy requirement, the amount of exhaust steam to be condensed can be kept small especially when providing a corresponding tap of the steam turbine.
If the natural gas supplied for the production of synthesis gas with a corresponding overpressure compared to the process pressure, it is advisable to first the overpressure of the entire natural gas flow compared to the process pressure and then after a diversion of the natural gas flow for reforming the remaining overpressure of the natural gas partial stream for heating Compaction process the process air and / or the synthesis gas, so that the entire mass flow of natural gas can be used for the processing of the overpressure of the natural gas over the process pressure.
In order to carry out the production process of synthesis gas for ammonia synthesis, a system with a primary reformer connected to a natural gas pressure line, with burners connected to a natural gas line for heating the primary reformer, with a secondary reformer and with a compressor connected on the pressure side to the secondary reformer.
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
terstufe for process air and / or a compressor stage for synthesis gas are assumed.
In order to utilize the overpressure of the partial gas flow for the heating of the primary reformer, a natural gas turbine is provided for driving at least one compressor stage for the process air or the syngas and / or a compressor for a natural gas stream for feeding the natural gas pressure line for the primary reformer, wherein the natural gas line for the burners of the primary reformer to the outlet of the turbine. With the help of this turbine, the diverted for the heating of the primary reformer partial gas stream is expanded to a required for the burner of the primary reformer discharge pressure with which the natural gas partial stream is fed via the natural gas line to the burners of the primary reformer.
The mechanical work obtained by relaxing the partial stream of natural gas is preferably used for driving at least one compressor stage for the process air or the synthesis gas, but can also be used for compressing the natural gas stream, which is supplied to the primary reformer via the natural gas pressure as process gas, if the available standing, can be processed via the turbine natural gas pressure below the process pressure of the primary reformer.
In the case of a supply of natural gas with an overpressure relative to the process pressure of the primary reformer, two gas turbines can be provided for driving the compressor stage for the process air, of which one is connected on the output side to the input of the other turbine connected on the output side to the natural gas line for the burners, wherein the natural gas pressure line for the primary reformer branches off from the connecting line of the two turbines. With such a construction, it is ensured in a simple manner that the overpressure of the entire natural gas flow can be provided on the one hand with respect to the process pressure and, on the other hand, with respect to the delivery pressure for the burners in an economical manner for driving at least one compressor stage for the process air or the synthesis gas.
Reference to the drawing, the inventive method is explained in detail. Show it
1 shows an inventive plant for producing synthesis gas for ammonia synthesis by steam reforming of natural gas in a simplified block diagram and
2 shows an illustration corresponding to FIG. 1 of a construction variant of a system according to the invention.
According to FIG. 1, the plant for steam reforming of natural gas has a primary reformer 1 for the endothermic and a secondary reformer 2 for the exothermic reforming reaction. For heating the primary reformer 1 burners 3 are provided, which are supplied via a natural gas line 4 with natural gas and an air line 5 with combustion air, which is preheated by a heat exchanger 6 with the exhaust gases from the heater of the primary reformer 1. The natural gas stream serving as the process gas is fed with a pressure adapted to the process pressure via a natural gas pressure line 7 to a desulphurisation device 8 and subsequently to the primary reformer 1 with the supply of water vapor.
The supplied via the feed line 9 steam is heated with the desulfurized natural gas through a heat exchanger 10 through the exhaust gas from the primary reformer 1, which flows after extensive utilization of its sensible heat through a fireplace 11ins free. After the endothermic reforming reaction in the primary reformer 1, the process gas is supplied to the secondary reformer 2 via the line 12 for exothermic reforming reaction, for the highly compressed on the process pressure of the secondary reformer 2 process air is needed. This process air is provided by a compressor stage 13 via a pressure line 14.
The reformed natural gas is withdrawn from the secondary reformer 2 via a line 15 as a raw gas to be subjected to a conversion and subsequent purification in a conventional manner, before the synthesis gas thus obtained can be used for ammonia synthesis.
To ensure the drive energy for the compressor stage 13, which consists of a supercharger 16 and a booster 17, two turbines 18 and 19 are provided which are supplied with natural gas, which is available via a supply line 20 with a pressure which is correspondingly greater than the process pressure of the primary reformer 1 is. This natural gas is preheated via a heat exchanger 21 first by the natural gas partial flow from the turbine 19 and then via a heat exchanger 22 with the waste heat of the process air from the supercharger 16 before it is fed to a heat exchanger 23 in the exhaust stream of the primary reformer 1.
With the help of the preheated by exploiting the various waste heat natural gas flow is
<Desc / Clms Page 3>
the turbine 18 is acted upon, in which the natural gas is expanded to a pressure corresponding to the process pressure of the primary reformer 1. On the output side, the turbine 18 is connected to the input of the turbine 19, wherein the natural gas pressure line 7 branches off from the connecting line 24 for serving as a process gas natural gas stream. The remaining partial gas stream is expanded in the turbine 19 to the delivery pressure of the natural gas for the burner 3, so that the overpressure of the natural gas from the supply line 20 are advantageously used both for the process pressure and against the delivery pressure for the burner 3 for driving the compressor stage 13 can.
If the energy available for the drive of the compressor stage 13 due to the overpressure of the available natural gas is not sufficient, an additional drive of the compressor stage 13 must be provided. This can be done by an electric drive, but also by a steam turbine 25, as indicated by dash-dotted lines. In order to relax the steam in the steam turbine 25 only to a degree that allows economical use of the exhaust steam, the essential amount of exhaust steam can be taken from a tap of the steam turbine 25, as indicated in the drawing. The remaining amount of exhaust steam condensed in a condenser 26 in a conventional manner will no longer be a significant energy loss.
The compression of the process air, which is sucked in via an air filter 27, takes place in a known manner, first via the supercharger 16, and then after an intermediate cooling via the heat exchanger 22 and optionally via a further heat exchanger, so that after the compression in the booster 17, a predetermined temperature level can be complied with.
It probably does not need to be emphasized that not only a compressor stage 13 for process air, but also a compressor stage for syngas can be driven by the acted upon by natural gas turbines 18,19 to the from the overpressure of the natural gas supplied to the process pressure on the one hand and on the other hand, to use mechanical work gained in relation to the delivery pressure for the burners 3 advantageously within the plant.
The plant according to FIG. 2 differs from that according to FIG. 1 primarily in that the natural gas pressure in the supply line 20 is lower than the required process pressure for the primary reformer 1. For this reason, the natural gas stream required for the process gas must be additionally compressed in a compressor 28, which is driven via the turbine 19. This turbine 19 is acted upon by the required for the heating of the primary reformer 1 natural gas partial stream, which is expanded in the turbine 19 to the delivery pressure for the burner 3. As a result of these prerequisites, the natural gas stream serving as the process gas and the natural gas partial stream for the heating of the primary reformer 1 must be separated from each other, a separate heat exchanger 29 is provided in the exhaust gas stream of the primary reformer 1 for the natural gas stream serving as heating gas.
The preheating of the natural gas partial stream for the process gas of the primary reformer 1 is analogous to the system according to FIG.
