Abstract

In a process to remove impurities from crude oil, the oil is stored in a large-volume tank with an inverted asymmetric base cone whose deepest point is off-center. Sediment and other heavy substances e.g. water are removed from the deepest point by a helical worm extractor and shut-off valve. The asymmetric conical structure is a permanent modification fabricated in acid-resistant concrete joined to the tank wall by a sheet steel skirt. Oil extracted is returned to the tank.

(US Patent 4, 025, 352 A ; 5/1977) beschrieben.

State of the art to date: There are several US patents which deal with the application of suspended matter "Oeischiamn" from oil tanks, that is to say are related, but which do not conflict with the present application for the following reasons: Goss; 2-4-1992; US 5 085 710 A treats the oil sludge with a nonionic surface treatment agent.

Krajicek, et. al. ; 4-4-1989; US 4,817,653 A uses a hydraulically operated robot which includes a displacement pump.

Deal, 111, et. al. ; 09-13-1988; No. 4,770,711 A, which uses a portable hydraulic apparatus with a liquefying reagent to remove oil-contaminated oil sludge deposits from the tank bottom.

Lindquist, 10-4-1983; US 4 407 035 A uses a modularized pneumatic tractor and a delritus condenser with pneumatic drive and high pressure vacuum units.

The patent specification EP 53 094 A2 is concerned with a plant for the purification of waste water, whereby the solids should settle in a container with a conical lower part. The patent specification US 1 971 032 A deals with a container whose lower part is formed by an asymmetrical cone in order to avoid "bridging".

Technical problem which is solved by the invention:
The invention is described below; the numbers refer to the peculiarities shown in drawings 1 and 2 (side view and perspective view):
The suspended matter contained in the oil precipitates and collects on the bottom of the tank; since the floor is inclined, the heels slip off. The a-symmetrical configuration (see figures) prevents "bridging".

An inverted cone (1) is attached to the bottom of the tank. At the lowest point there is a collecting point (2) from which a screw conveyor (3) advances the material to a rotating pressure lock (4). After this, the material is in a three-phase centrifuge in oil, which is returned to the tank (separated by pump, water and solid oil sludge, water and oil sludge are (optionally) sent to a carpenter Mobil Fluid Bed Oxidiser (US Pat. No. 5,744, 691 A, 4/1988; Tischler) for final disposal or for interim storage / other disposal. The cone (the cones) are made of sulfur concrete (or similarly acid-resistant concrete); such material is for example from Leutner et. Ai. (US Patent 4,025,352 A; 5/1977).

The optimal angle of inclination of the sliding surfaces is calculated using an empirical formula; this results in the configuration of the cone (or the cones, should a plurality of such collectors be required). The contact between the upper edge of the cone and the tank wall is covered with a sheet steel apron (9).

Advantages of the invention can exist in the following points:
1. Methodology for spreading suspended matter from an oil tank permits tank cleaning while it is in operation.

   2. No chemicals or moving parts are introduced into the tank and no maintenance is planned after the modification.

   3. The collection of the suspended suspended solids is carried out gravitationally and their application is carried out via a screw conveyor or a functional equivalent.

   4. Since water contained in the oil no longer comes into contact with the tank wall / tank bottom (metal) using this method, corrosion of the tank is excluded.

   5. The continuously applied material is plastic and therefore easy to process further (separation into oil, water and solids takes place immediately); about 95-98% of im

Oil sludge containing oils are continuously returned to the tank.

  6. The configuration of the soil modification is determined by parameters such as suspended matter,
Viscosity of the oil and the ambient temperature (as well as other locally important ones
Parameters) determined.

  7. ILTC enables heavily corroded tanks to continue to operate since these tank wall areas are no longer in contact with oil.
