<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The invention relates to a wire rope with a non-metallic core strand and a single layer of strands formed from wire lying thereon, the non-metallic core strand having a closed surface on which the strands formed from wire lie, and at least on its surface made of plastic , and that on the surface of the core strand, in addition to the strands formed from wire, there are also support strands which are parallel to the strands formed from wire and each lie between two adjacent strands, the strands abutting the support strands and kept apart by the support strands are and do not touch each other.
In particular, those wire ropes are taken into consideration which run continuously over rollers during operation, as is the case with wire ropes of cable cars
Especially with wire ropes, which are subjected to constant bending stress during operation, as is the case when ropes run continuously over rollers, the friction occurring between the strands of the rope is of great importance with regard to the achievable service life of such a wire rope.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a wire rope of the type mentioned at the outset which, with essentially the same construction of the wire supporting parts formed from wire, has an improved service life and also good running properties compared to wire ropes of the type mentioned at the outset.
The inventive wire rope of the type mentioned at the outset is characterized in that the support strands consist of twisted and / or stranded fiber material and are designed to be free of sheathing. With this design, the above objective can be met well. Because the adjacent strands of the rope are kept at a distance from one another by the support rods, disadvantageous friction processes between adjacent strands are eliminated, and it also results from the strands being at a distance are kept apart from each other, a better approximation of the circular shape of the rope, which makes an advantageous contribution to the desired smoothness of the rope.
The support strands not only ensure a mutual spacing of the adjacent strands of the wire rope from one another, whereby the friction of adjacent strands against one another is eliminated, but these support strands can also be used as very effective lubricant stores, in which not only during the manufacture of the wire rope, but also Lubricant can later be introduced without any problems, because these support strands are accessible through the gaps they maintain between adjacent strands and because these support strands are themselves free of sheathing.
The support strands are preferably strands or ropes made of plastic fibers, and the use of fibers made of polypropylene or polyamide is advantageous both in terms of achieving stable support over long periods of time and also in terms of keeping friction in the wire rope low. It is also an advantage of the use of the support strands provided in the wire rope according to the invention for the permanent separation of the strands lying next to one another in a strand layer that these support strands can be provided in the course of the stranding processes in the manufacture of the wire rope without requiring special measures for this. which burden the production process or require additional facilities; it can be worked cold, which z.
B. compared to the known pressing of the strands of a wire layer of a wire rope into a plastic sheath softened by heating, on which these strands rest, whereby pressing results in ribs which penetrate more or less far between adjacent strands, which represents an essential manufacturing advantage.
With regard to the core strand, there is an embodiment that is favorable in terms of production and also in terms of the achievable service life of the wire rope, provided that, as is known per se, a core strand surrounded by a plastic sheath consists of one or more non-metallic strands or Rope (s) or from a bundle of fibers is provided, the strands or the ropes or the fiber bundle preferably being formed from plastic fibers. The formation of the core strand in the form of a bundle of fibers surrounded by a plastic jacket has the advantage that a large filling density of fibers can be achieved in the core strand.
The construction of the core strand based on a strand of fiber material, which may be one or more strands or ropes or a fiber bundle, offers the possibility of accommodating a further lubricant depot in the rope by
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
fibers located in the strand during manufacture of the core strand are mixed with a lubricant.
This lubricant gradually escapes through pores in the plastic sheath that surrounds the fiber material of the core strand, and lubricant is continuously fed to the strands of the wire rope resting on the plastic sheath over long periods of time; With practically all plastics, which come into question for the formation of a plastic sheath of the core strand, pores arise through the bending loads occurring when the wire rope runs over rollers, through which the aforementioned lubricant can escape from the core strand; it is possible to favor the formation of pores if desired by suitable choice of material.
A flexible plastic rod can also be provided as the core strand. This embodiment enables a very simple manufacture of the core strand and at the same time also achieves a particularly dimensionally stable support for the strands of the wire rope surrounding the core strand, which, viewed as a whole, also results in very good stability of the outer contour of the wire rope.
As a rule, a circular cylindrical shape of the surface of the core strand can be provided, on which the support strands and the wire strands of the wire rope are placed during the course of the stranding, in particular under the strands of the surface of the core strand under the influence the pressure forces exerted by the strands on the core strand lead to the formation of slight indentations in the surface of the core strand, these indentations supporting a practically displacement-free fit of the strands and the support strands.
If you want to further intensify the hold that the strands formed from wire and also the support strands find on the surface of the core strand, one can advantageously provide prefabricated helical troughs on the surface of the core strand, in which the support strands come to rest.
It can be mentioned that DE-OS 3 240 898 discloses a wire rope in which metallic strands are provided in a plurality of layers one above the other, with the aim being to separate them from one another in order to reduce the mutual friction. For this, u. a. a plastic covering layer is applied to a middle strand layer, and fibers are inserted between adjacent or superimposed strands. This is not a stabilization measure for a rope with high flexibility, but the insertion of friction-reducing intermediate layers in a relatively rigid rope with several Layers of metallic strands.
There is also no indication in this DE-OS that the fibers inserted between the strand layers should be twisted or stranded strands, as is provided for the rope which forms the subject of the present invention.
The invention is further explained with reference to examples, which are shown schematically in the drawing. The drawing shows:
1 shows a wire rope designed according to the invention, in which three strands of fiber material are provided in the core strand, in cross section,
Fig. 2, also in cross section, an embodiment of a designed according to the invention
Wire rope, in which a rope made of five strands of fiber material is provided in the core strand, and
Fig. 3, again in cross section, an embodiment of a wire rope according to the invention, in which the core strand is a flexible plastic rod.
In the embodiment of a wire rope 1 shown in FIG. 1, a core strand 2 is provided, which is formed from three strands 3 made of fiber material and a sheath 4 which comprises and envelops them and is made of plastic. The jacket 4 has a closed surface, on which, surrounding the core strand 2 all around, there is a layer of strands 5 formed from wire. On the surface 6 of the core strand 2, in addition to the strands 5 formed from wire, support strands 7 are also placed, which are parallel to those formed from wire
Strands 5 run and each lie between two adjacent strands 5; the strands 5 are on the
Support strands 7 and are held at a distance from each other by the support strands 7, the
Do not touch strands 5.
The support strands 7 consist of a twisted and / or stranded fiber material which is formed from plastic fibers. Fibers made of polypropylene or polyamide are preferred. Under certain circumstances, natural fibers can also be used to form the support strands 7. The support strands 7 are provided with a lubricant. The same is also in
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
the strands 3 located in the core strand 2 introduced a lubricant.
In the embodiment of a wire rope 1 shown in FIG. 2, the core strand 2 consists of a rope 9, which is made of plastic fiber material. Four strands 3 are provided, which are stranded with a core strand 10. The rope 9 is surrounded by a plastic sheath 4. On the surface 6 of the core strand 2, analogously to the exemplary embodiment according to FIG. 1, strands 5 and support strands 7 formed from wire are placed in an alternating sequence, the support strands 7 keeping the strands 5 at a distance from one another so that the strands 5 do not touch one another .
In the embodiment of a wire rope shown in FIG. 3, the core strand 2 is a flexible plastic rod, and in this case too, strands 5 made of wire and support strands 7 made of fiber material are placed successively on the surface of the core strand in the circumferential direction. The strands 5 are held at a distance from one another by the support strands 7, so that the strands 5 do not touch one another. The support strands 7 are also provided with a lubricant in this case.
