<Desc/Clms Page number 2>

The invention relates to a device for exhaust timing control of a cylinder of a two-stroke internal combustion engine with an exhaust port connecting to a main exhaust of the cylinder, with at least one side port between the exhaust port and a secondary outlet of the cylinder, with a control body arranged adjustably in the region of the cylinder head-side wall of the exhaust port which, in its working position projecting into the outlet duct, partially covers the main outlet with the aid of a control edge which is adapted to the cylinder bore, and with a shut-off body for the side duct which can be actuated as a function of the position of the control body.
In order to be able to ensure high peak performance at high speeds in two-stroke internal combustion engines, good filling and as little charge loss as possible must be ensured, which is achieved by exploiting resonance effects by opening the exhaust duct accordingly early. This adjustment of the exhaust system to the top performance of the internal combustion engine requires not only a noticeable loss of usable stroke in the medium speed range due to the comparatively large height of the outlet, but also a sharp increase in charge losses, whereby the torque drops and the specific fuel consumption increases. An increase in torque with reduced fuel consumption in the low speed ranges can only be achieved by a shorter opening time of the outlet.
In this context, it is known (AT 380 537 B) to provide a control slide in the exhaust port, which is slidably mounted in a radial passage guide in the cylinder head-side wall of the exhaust port and which forms a control edge on the free end face adapted to the cylinder bore, so that in the working position of the control spool advanced against the cylinder, the outlet is partially covered in terms of height, which results in a corresponding reduction in the outlet time.
If, in order to improve the outlet conditions at the beginning or at the end of the exhaust gas outlet, side secondary outlets are provided in the cylinder in addition to a main outlet, which are connected to the outlet port connected to the main outlet by side channels, these side outlets are blocked in order to shorten the outlet time, namely by means of cylindrical shut-off bodies which pass through the side channels and can be rotated about an axis of rotation parallel to the cylinder axis between a locked position and an open position.
So that these roller-shaped shut-off bodies, which have a recess for releasing the side channels, can be actuated as a function of a control flap provided in the exhaust channel, which is pivotably mounted in the area of the cylinder head-side wall of the exhaust channel and is partially pivoted into the exhaust channel to shorten the effective height of the main exhaust can, the control flap, whose pivot axis runs parallel to a cylinder tangent, is connected to the roller-shaped shut-off bodies via a link guide.
A disadvantage of this known exhaust time control is, above all, the considerable design effort, which is caused on the one hand by the rotatable, roller-shaped shut-off bodies in the side channels and on the other hand by the necessary drive connection between these shut-off bodies and the control flap, the pivot axis of which compared to the axes of rotation of the shut-off bodies by 90 runs at an angle.
Finally, it is known (EP 0 141 650 A2) to control the side secondary outlet provided next to a main outlet by means of a locking slide as a function of the engine speed, so that the secondary outlet is only opened at higher engine speeds. In this known construction, however, a control body for the exhaust timing control of the
Main outlet.
The invention is therefore based on the object of avoiding these deficiencies and of designing a device for controlling the exhaust time of a cylinder of a two-stroke internal combustion engine of the type described at the outset in such a way that advantageous drive conditions for the control body in the area of the exhaust duct and for because of a simple structure the shut-off of the
Side channels can be ensured.
The invention achieves the stated object in that the control body in the exhaust port in a manner known per se as the cylinder head-side wall of the exhaust port in one of these
Passing through the channel wall and the passage guide running at an acute angle to the cylinder axis
Control slide is formed, and that the shut-off body consists of a locking slide displaceable parallel to the control slide
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
With the provision of a control slide for the outlet duct, an actuating movement running at an acute angle both to the cylinder axis and to the axis of the outlet duct is required for the control of the outlet duct, which actuating movement can advantageously be used for controlling the shut-off body in the side duct between the secondary outlet and the outlet duct ,
if this shut-off body is designed as a locking slide parallel to the control slide. The locking slide only needs to be slidably inserted into a bore parallel to the passage of the control slide in the outlet channel wall, which penetrates the side channel, so that the locking slide locks the side channel in the advanced working position and releases it in the retracted basic position.
Because of the matching adjustment direction, the coupling of the drives for the control slide and the locking slide is considerably simplified. The locking slide and the control slide can advantageously be actuated against a spring action via a common adjusting head, it being possible in principle to make the spring action effective in the direction of the working position or the basic position.
In order on the one hand to compensate for unequal travel, but on the other hand to be able to ensure staggered actuation of the control spool and the locking slide, which can bring the outlet timing control closer to a larger speed range, the locking spool can be slidably mounted in relation to the control spool, without for the two slides have to provide separate drives. Particularly simple constructional relationships result in this connection if the control slide and the locking slide are acted upon by separate springs in the direction of the working position, because in this case, for example, the locking slide can be moved within the mutual displacement length relative to the control slide pressed into the working position.
This means that the auxiliary outlet can be controlled independently of this when the spool is in the working position.
The subject matter of the invention is shown in the drawing, for example. Show it
