EMI1.1
Biomass by compression and screw extrusion, as well as a device for carrying out the process.
A method of this type is known for example from DE-A-34 22 912. Here, a naturally moist biomass is crushed to a certain particle size and then intimately mixed with a non-oxidized plastic microknstalline wax, an inorganic adsorbent compatible with the mlkroknstalline wax being mixed in before the wax is added.
The added microwaxes are of mineral origin and have a sticky, plastic consistency. The biomass is discontinuously pressed into a compression chamber by means of a press screw and the compact thus formed is ejected from this compression chamber.
From DE-A-31 11 324 a method for producing a fuel from biomass is known, which is formed from waste oil, waste grease, plastic waste and clay, clay or slate, lubricating sand as well as paper, straw and wood. This mass is stirred until it is almost dry but still slightly sticky, whereupon this mass is pressed discontinuously into molds under high pressure.
A continuous production of fuel from cellulose-containing material, such as wood and / or paper, is also known from DE-A-36 30 248, the material being compressed in a screw press. The fuel also contains polyethylene, which gives the mass a bond, so that a high density of the mass can only be achieved.
All the known methods have disadvantages. which can be seen above all that the biomass either as a result of the bound high moisture content (cf. DE-A - 34 22 912) or as a result of the admixtures which contain a significant proportion of the components which reduce the calorific value (cf. in particular DE-A -31 11 324), has only a relatively low calorific value. A further significant disadvantage can then be seen that binders (an inorganic binder according to DE-A-36 30 248) have to be added to form lumpy fuel. The processing of sticky biomass is not without problems in terms of plant technology, in particular with batch processes.
In order to achieve high performance, discontinuous processes also require a high level of plant engineering
The invention aims to avoid these disadvantages and difficulties and has as its object to provide a method for producing lumpy fuel from biomass. which not only has a high calorific value, in particular as a result of a very high density, but which can also be achieved in simple catfish, in particular without the use of inorganic binders, and with little outlay on equipment.
This object is achieved according to the invention in that for the production of fuel material consisting exclusively of biomass in the form of pellets, the compression is carried out in two stages, namely firstly by a pressing process which arises as a result of a decreasing flight volume of a screw of the screw extruder and secondly by a after the outlet of the pre-compressed firing material as a compacting section carried out from the screw passage. which includes a continuous pushing of the biomass through a plurality of openings arranged in the area of the screw flight and tapering in cross-section in the sliding direction.
The two-stage compression according to the invention succeeds on the one hand. to achieve a very high density of the firing material, whereby the water contained in the biomass can be expelled in an unproblematic manner. This in turn makes it easier to further compress the biomass, which results in a particular increase in the calorific value. In addition, pellets of relatively high strength can be produced without the addition of binders.
The biomass is advantageously heated to 100 to 4000 ° C. in the first compression step, with heating to 100 to 4000 ° C. expediently also taking place during the second compression phase
Preferably, the biomass is from wood shavings and or wood shavings and or bark

The object of the invention is also to provide a particularly simple, inexpensive and reliable, d. A particularly effective compression of the biomass is achieved if the screw flights are formed by screw flanks that are inclined forward in the conveying direction, the screw flanks preferably having a narrowing angle of between 3 and 7 #, preferably an inclination angle, with respect to a plane that is vertical to the axis of rotation of the screw Include from 5 @.
In this case, an overhang of the front screw flanks of the order of magnitude of at least 3 mm is appropriate. preferably of 4 mm.
The invention is explained in more detail below with the aid of the drawing, FIG. 1 an axial section through a device according to the invention, FIG. 2 a detail 11 of FIG. 1 on an enlarged scale and FIGS. 3 and 4 a detail of a further embodiment of the device according to the invention in FIG Cut (Flg.

The device according to the invention has a screw extruder 1 which is equipped with a, preferably single, screw 2, which has a pitch volume which decreases towards its outlet end 3. An Antnebsstummel 4 of the screw 2 protrudes outward at one end of the housing receiving the screw 5 and is supported in the housing by means of rolling bearings (not shown). The screw 2 has a cylindrical shaft core 6 which merges into a shoulder 7 of smaller diameter at its front end 3.

According to the embodiment shown in FIG. 1, the openings are provided in one row. The largest diameter of the conical area 19 of the openings 18, which lies on the inside surface of the mattress 8, is larger than the clear width of the screw flight 17 at the front end 3 of the screw 2.
The flight volume of the screw 2 decreases approximately in the ratio 3. 1. The ratio of the conveying cross-sectional area of the screw at the discharge end 3 of the screw 2 to the sum of all the largest cross sections of the openings 18 of the die 8 is approximately 2: 1 according to the exemplary embodiment shown.
According to the embodiment of the mattress 8 shown in FIG. 3, the openings 18 are provided in two rows. The opening angle z of the conically shaped inner end regions 19 of the openings 18 is somewhat smaller. It is about 12 ..
