Abstract

In a method for manufacturing a multi-layer identity, credit or cheque card, an inner layer of the card covered by a transparent protective film is, by means of a laser beam, inscribed with card-specific data relating to the identity of the authorized user, use being made of an inner layer with heat-sensitive colouring materials which undergo a colour change under the action of the laser beam. In order for it to be possible to include individual features, in particular personalizing data, in a forgery-proof form which is difficult to imitate, the heat-sensitive materials are provided in the form of a pattern, and the information is illustrated by the local changes in colour which occur when the laser beam passes over the pattern. <IMAGE>

   Nachfolgend ist eine Ausführungsform der Erfindung anhand der beigefügten Zeichnung beispielsweise beschrieben. Darin zeigen : Fig. 1 eine Ansicht der   Ausweist=,   Fig. 2 einen Querschnitt durch die Ausweiskarte : Fig. 3 ein Fliessbild des Systems zur   Auswciskartenpersonalisierung ;

User-related data is labeled, security risk is increased.

Since complex lamination devices are necessary for the lamination of the ID cards, the inlets are personalized for the user in a mixed form of the two systems, but the lamination of the cards again with the
 EMI2.2
magnetic strip. Although the identification cards can be personalized in this process by both the ID card manufacturer and the card user, it is not necessary in this case to send unclad blank blanks. However, the advantage achieved here must be bought through a number of additional serious disadvantages.

Since the personalization is done by embossing the surface of the cover film, the data is accessible without any further action and is therefore exposed to the increased risk of falsification.

In order to improve the legibility of the data, the raised areas of the embossing are colored. The color is

 can process in real time.

It has also already been proposed to record information on identity cards using a laser marking method (FR-OS 22 99 872). The cards come with a layer
 EMI2.4

Therm (thermal indicator layer) different coloring.

Such a display of information on ID cards can be done with relatively simple means
 EMI2.5

To remove printing inks with incorrect information from the correct information, this can also be overprinted so that the information is no longer visible. Then incorrect information can be printed in the color that the thermal indicator used for the respective card would show after it warms up above the envelope temperature.

LttMM in <ih8f The pattern is preferably carried out with different dyes with different color changes and, if necessary, different envelope temperatures and the information is brought in multicolored by means of the laser beam.

The method according to the invention has the advantage, among other things, that it also contains ID cards under
 EMI3.2
The pattern can be reproduced and the correct thermochromic substances must be available - it must also have a laser to bring in the information. So he cannot refer to others, e.g. B. printing technology, use resources to make a false impression.
 EMI3.3
! ettsMagnetpiste, as well as the visible map information, including the photo if necessary, can be applied in a single operation.

According to the invention, the process has the organizational advantages of the embossing process. However, it not only avoids its nighttime safety,
 EMI3.4
either from card to card or from card to card.

In particular when using patterns that are varied from card to card, the information shown in this pattern can be used not only as a visual authenticity feature but also to secure the magnetic pistol data. For this purpose, the pattern is scanned with a suitable optical scanning device on a predetermined track of the identity card with subsequent preparation of the
 EMI3.5
cichungen. The processing of the signals is carried out in a similar manner as this e.g. B. from DE-OS 26 35 795 when scanning magnetic individual data is already known.

A pattern that varies from series to series, on the other hand, is preferably used only to increase the manufacturing effort for the wrong person and to visually check the authenticity.

The possibility of being able to incorporate guilloche, stcmpcl-like or differently structured patterns, alphanumeric data and image information into the finished laminated ID card expands the range of possible applications to all conceivable cases in practice.

   An embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the accompanying drawing, for example. 1 shows a view of the identification cards, FIG. 2 shows a cross section through the identification card: FIG. 3 shows a flow diagram of the system for personalization of the identification card;
