<Desc/Clms Page number 3>

The melamine resin solutions obtained according to the invention are preferred as liquefying additives to inorganic binders, such as. B. cement, anhydrite, gypsum, kaolin, fly ash, magnesia cement or pozzolans added, whereby their flow properties are improved.
On the other hand, by adding these additives it is possible to obtain a binder mixture with the same flow properties using smaller amounts of water, which then increases the strength of the hardened building material.
Some of the hydantoin derivatives used according to the invention are commercial products or they can be produced, for example, in accordance with AT-PS No. 353283 or Kirk-Othmer, Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology, Third Edition, Volume 12 (1980), pages 692-711.
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
As a measure of the storage stability of the resin solutions according to the invention, the storage time in days was given for Examples 1 to 6, after which the viscosity, measured in accordance with DIN 53211 at 20 ° C. in a 4 mm flow cup, had risen to a value of 195 s. Above this value, the handling and processability of the resin solutions are already considerably more difficult due to the high viscosities.
In Examples 7 to 22, the storage stability was indicated by measuring the viscosity reached after 92 days at 20 ° C. in seconds in accordance with DIN 53211 in the 4 mm flow cup or in the 6 mm flow cup (Examples 20 and 20A).
The invention is explained in more detail in the following examples, the hydantoin derivatives listed in Table 1 being used as examples.

EMI5.3
Example 7A
A resin solution was prepared analogously to Example 7, but without the addition of a hydantoin derivative. Concentration, viscosity and storage stability are given in Table 3.
Examples 8 to 17:
Resin solutions were prepared analogously to Example 7, but, as indicated in Table 3, different hydantoin derivatives and different concentrations of hydantoin derivative were used. In Example 12, the dimethylhydantoin was only added after the condensation had ended. Concentration, viscosity and storage stability at 25 C of the resin solutions obtained are also given in Table 3.
Example 18:
In an apparatus analogous to Example 1, 256.7 parts of water, 126 parts of melamine (1 mol), 258, 7 parts of formalin 36, 3% (3.13 mol) and 107.4 parts of sodium disulfite (1.13 mol) were adjusted to pH 8 with 50% formic acid, warmed to 60 C and condensed until

The mixture was then adjusted to pH 9.2 using a 207% sodium hydroxide solution and cooled. The concentration, viscosity and storage stability (given as viscosity according to DIN 53211 in seconds at 20 C in a 6 mm flow cup after 92 days of storage at 25 C) of the resin solution obtained are given in Table 3.
Example 20A
A resin solution was prepared analogously to Example 20, but without the addition of a hydantoin derivative. Concentration, viscosity and storage stability (viscosity according to DIN 53211 in a 6 mm flow cup) are given in Table 3.
Example 21:
Analogously to Example 1, two resin solutions were prepared, but 126 parts of melamine

Example 23:
The liquefying effect of the resin solutions obtained according to the invention with approximately the same final strengths was shown on an anhydrite screed:
50 parts of natural anhydrite were dry premixed with 50 parts of aggregate (0 to 4 mm round grain), with 14.5 parts of water in which 0.25 parts of Na.
SO, and 0.725 parts of the resin solution according to Example 8 were dissolved, mixed and mixed intensively for 90 s.
An anhydrite mixture was prepared analogously, but without adding the plasticizer obtained according to the invention.
Analogously to this, in order to demonstrate the water-saving effect when using the resin obtained according to the invention and the much higher final strengths which can be achieved therewith with approximately the same flow properties, a further anhydrite mixture without a liquefier, but with 21 parts of water, was used.
The flowability and the flexural tensile strength and the compressive strength of the hardened screed were measured on the 3 mixtures after 28 days.
To determine the flowability, a Vicat ring (DIN 1164, sheet 5), which rested on a horizontal glass plate, was filled with the mixture and pulled upwards.
The diameter in cm was measured as a measure of the flowability of the pancake being formed.
The flexural strength and compressive strength were determined on 4 x 4 x 16 cm prisms (DIN 1164, sheet 7) after 28 days.
The following values for flowability and strength were obtained:

Example 24:
The liquefying effect of the resin obtained according to the invention with approximately the same final strength was demonstrated on the following concrete mixture:
In a 65 l Eirich compulsory mixer, 7.0 kg of PZ 275 H cement (Perlmooser cement, Kirchbichl plant) with the dried aggregate (round grain from Holzleithen near Linz: 20, 23 kg 0 to 4 mm, 7, 95 kg 4 to 8 mm, 6, 18 kg 8 to 16 mm, 9, 71 kg 16 to 32 mm) 30 s premixed,
<Desc / Clms Page number 8>
mixed with 2.59 kg of water, added a further 1.30 kg of water after a further 30 s of mixing time,
Mixed for 1 min, 46 g of the resin solution according to Example 8 (0.65% by weight resin solution, based on cement) were added and stirred for 1 min. Analogously, a concrete mixture was prepared, in which 20 g of a powder were added as a plasticizer instead of the resin solution, which was obtained by spray drying the resin solution according to Example 8.
The solid plasticizer content was 0.28% by weight, based on cement.
In addition, a further concrete mixture was made analogously without adding the liquefying resin obtained according to the invention.
The flowability of all 3 concrete mixes was measured as a slump in cm according to DIN
1048, sheet 1, measured 1 min after the end of the mixing process. The compressive strength was measured after 18 h and after 28 days, also in accordance with DIN 1048, sheet 1, on test cubes with an edge length of 15 cm.
