<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
Bildung der Dichtungseinlage gut geeignet, wie z. B. Polyurethanelastomeren.

The invention relates to a method for producing the sealing inserts provided in the flaps serving to change the pitch of a wind instrument
Closing of the flaps at the edge of the openings of the instrument that determine the pitch come into contact, whereby in these flaps a plastic mass that can be solidified into a flexible plastic is introduced and solidified to form sealing inserts.
Wind instruments of the aforementioned type are e.g. B. the flute, the saxophone, the clarinet, the
Oboe, the bassoon, the piccolo. In these wind instruments, felt disks are usually used as sealing inlays, which are provided with an intestinal coating. These
Designing the seals provided on the flaps requires a great deal of expertise and skill when installing them, and the installation of these known seals involves a great deal of work. One of the reasons for this is that the edge of the openings to be closed on the wind instruments is not exactly flat, that the flaps are mounted eccentrically and that the bottom surface of the flaps generally has unevenness.
On the other hand, for a musically perfect function of the instruments, it is a tight one
Flaps must be closed. In order to meet this requirement, it has usually been done so far that, after a preliminary leveling of the flap bottom, the sealing side of the sealing inserts by thin inserts, which are placed between the sealing inserts and the flap bottom and z. B. consist of paper, the shape of the opening edge is adjusted; it is clear that this is a very cumbersome and requires great sensitivity and accordingly the installation of sealing inserts with this known technique requires a great deal of effort.
In addition, the durability of these known sealing inserts is relatively short, so that in the case of an instrument that is frequently played, the sealing inserts have to be renewed at intervals of one or two years.
The use of prefabricated sealing inserts made of elastomer material (US Pat. No. 4, 114, 500) is also unable to adequately remedy the aforementioned difficulties which result from the irregular shape of the openings to be closed with the flaps.
If you plan to fill a liquid or pasty plastic mass into the flaps and solidify it with a hardener and then press the edge of the openings into the plastic mass, problems can arise with regard to the shape of the sealing inserts thus created in the flaps and also with regard to the Position that the flaps assume in their closed position; when the edge of the openings is simply pressed into the plastic mass, the closing position of the flaps is determined in a not sufficiently specific manner. However, the shape of the sealing inserts influences the sound of the instrument, and the position that the flaps occupy in their closed position influences the playing properties of the instrument.
It is an object of the invention to provide a method of the type mentioned in the introduction, in which a sealing of the flaps which corresponds fully to the sound requirements and the playing requirements can be achieved in a simple manner, and the possibility should also exist of instruments of the type in question , in which the flaps are equipped with the usual sealing inserts, to rework in a manner according to the invention.
The inventive method of the type mentioned is characterized in that the flaps filled with the plastic mass are moved into the position corresponding to their closed position in the finished instrument and are supported in this position, the edge of the openings to be closed with the flaps being pressed into the plastic mass, and that the supports holding the flaps are removed after the plastic mass has solidified.
The above objective can be met well by this method.
It is thus possible to achieve an exact, tight fit of the flaps on the openings of the instrument to be closed in a simple manner with relatively little work, with an exact positioning of the flaps being obtained in the closed position. This is advantageous for the playability of the instrument. Silicone rubber can advantageously be used as the plastic material, which results in a largely constant elastic compliance over long periods of time. However, there are also other plastics that solidify into a flexible body
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
Formation of the sealing insert well suited, such as. B. polyurethane elastomers.
One advantageously provides for the use of a plastic compound that solidifies at ambient temperature, so that no additional measures are necessary to bring about the solidification of the plastic compound. However, it is also possible to use a plastic mass which has been set to solidify at a temperature above the ambient temperature, and the flaps and / or the opening areas of the instrument after being placed on it. heat the flaps to the openings assigned to them to solidify the plastic mass. Such heating can e.g. B. be carried out by supplying warm air.
An advantageous embodiment of this method which, in a simple manner, can achieve the flat course of the area of the sealing insert located within the edge of the opening to be closed, which is advantageous for sound reasons, and also the manipulation of the
Formation of the sealing insert is simplified, characterized in that each with a
Flap to be closed before this flap is folded and supported in the position corresponding to its closed position in the finished instrument, a filler filling this opening, which is protruded from the edge, is inserted, and that this filler again after the plastic mass has solidified Will get removed.
It is, from the expiry of the molding of the sealing insert, furthermore advantageous if the plastic mass provided for forming the sealing insert is filled into the flap in an amount that corresponds to the volume of the flap located in the closed position in the finished instrument and of the filler located in the opening of the bounded space. It is favorable here if the excess plastic mass is let out through an outflow opening provided in the packing.
To achieve an evenly clean lateral edge of the sealing insert all around, it is advantageous if the flaps are supported in a position in the direction of
Closing of the flaps seen, the plane through the flap edge lies in front of the plane through the opening edge. When the plastic mass solidifies, a side surface that is smooth all round can be obtained if one is in the closed position during manufacture
Instrument-appropriate position of the flap surrounding the opening edge and adjoining the flap edge, before the flap is folded into this position, is attached to the outside of the opening edge or on the side of the flap facing the opening and that this edging again after the plastic mass has solidified is removed.
A manipulation of the method, which is simple in its manipulation, is obtained if a plastic mass, for example, around the opening to be closed with the flap, leaving the edge of this opening free. B. wax or putty, is applied and a support disc is pressed on it, which in turn supports the edging and determines the closed position of the flap. It is furthermore favorable if the support disk and the casing are connected to one another in a coaxial manner before the flap is folded into the position corresponding to the closed position in the finished instrument.
The invention will now be further explained with reference to examples which are shown schematically in the drawings. 1 shows an embodiment of a wind instrument produced using the method according to the invention in section; FIG. 2 shows a first stage of an embodiment of the method according to the invention on the basis of a view and section of a wind instrument corresponding to FIG. 1; and FIG. 3 shows a second stage of this method in a sectional illustration corresponding to FIG. 2.
1 shows the section of an opening of a wind instrument that can be closed by a flap. Such a wind instrument can e.g. B. be a flute or a saxophone. The opening --3-- on the pipe --2-- of the instrument is surrounded by a chimney --4--, which is molded or soldered to the pipe --2--. The wind instrument has several

Then the flap --6-- is opened again, and either the flap --6- or the area surrounded by the filler --17-- and the bezel --16-- is provided for the formation of the sealing insert Plastic mass --24-- introduced and then the flap --6-- closed again, whereby the edge --5-- of the opening --3-- to be closed with the flap --6-- into the plastic mass --24- - pressed in or this edge is molded on by the plastic compound --24--. This stage of the process is shown in FIG. 3.
The plastic mass is then solidified to form the sealing insert --7--.
The plastic mass intended to form the sealing insert --7-- is preferably filled into the flap in question in an amount which corresponds to the volume of the flap --6-- in the closed position and that in the opening --3-- filler located --17-- of the enclosed space. In this way, a complete filling of this space and in particular the area surrounding the edge opening -3-- is achieved in a simple manner.
In order to avoid constraints that could disadvantageously move the support disc --15-- or the filler --17--, a filler with a drain opening --25-- is advantageously used.
After the plastic compound that forms the sealing insert solidifies, the flap is opened and the filler --17-- removed from the opening --3-- and the support disc --15-- and the plastic compound --14-- removed ; If the bezel ring --16-- was only lightly attached to the support disc --15--, it remains on the edge of the sealing insert --7-- when the flap is opened and is then removed from the edge of the sealing insert. The surround ring --16-- results in a clean course of the edge of the sealing insert without further rework.
After opening the flap --6--, a pin-like extension remains on the sealing insert --7-- from the drain opening --25--, which can be easily cut off.

flap the flap --6--, leaving an annular gap between the support washer --15-- and the edge --22-- of the flap --6--, which allows the excess of the plastic compound used to form the sealing insert to escape without having to provide a drain opening in the packing --17--. In this case, however, there is an irregular bordering of the sealing insert which, after it has hardened, has to be cut away or cleaned to form a smooth edge course.
The hardening of the plastic mass provided for the formation of the sealing insert --7-- can be carried out by setting the hardener accordingly at ambient temperature. However, in order to achieve a longer service life or pot life of the plastic mass, the composition of this plastic mass can be selected so that it only shows a sufficiently rapid hardening behavior at elevated temperature and the flap area of the instrument can be heated accordingly after the plastic mass has been introduced, which e.g. B. can be made by means of hot air.
