The imprint can be done directly by lithography, letterpress or other mechanical printing methods. Stone printing is best if the print to be produced is suitable for chromolithography; In this case, the printing is best done using the lithographic sheet metal printing press with a rubber roller. If the printing is to be done typographically, this is done using the typographical planographic printing press. If, furthermore, individual parts of the imprint produced by Steineder Buchdluck are to appear as relief or intaglio printing, a completely flat imprint is first produced using one of the specified methods, and then the relevant areas are pressed down by appropriately engraved metal matrices with the aid of a stamping press.
It is also possible to produce raised prints in a single operation that stand out in the natural tone of the wood on a colored background. For this purpose, only deeply engraved matrices of the type mentioned are required, the printing surfaces of which are provided with the relevant color by means of the inking roller; by pressing the wooden panel against the die, the wooden surface is only colored by the non-recessed part of the die, while the core parts that enter the recesses appear as uncolored protrusions.
On the other hand, should the raised areas also be colored. but in a different color than the background appear, the recesses of the die are first colored with the color to be given to the raised areas of the wood. removes this from the surface with a cloth roller and this carries the other, the one, by means of the inking roller
