The invention relates to a device for the automatic reading of check cards or the like, on which magnetic strips are applied, on which data are stored, a reading slot for receiving the check card with a horizontal insertion path of the
Card limiting stop and a reading head movable in the region of the reading shaft by means of a drive device along a guide.
Such a device has been used e.g. B. known from DE-OS 2454344. In this known
Solution is arranged under the guide for the card to be inserted, a rocker arm, at the free end facing the guide for the card the reading head is held by a rocker. This rocker is guided by a headed guide via sliding pieces protruding at its free ends, as a result of which the reading head is held essentially perpendicular to the magnetic strip of the card to be read.
With this solution, however, there is the disadvantage of a high sensitivity to foreign bodies which have penetrated and which is easy to jam, for B. the rocker or the rocker arm. In addition, the known construction results in a large number of bearings and guides, which further increases the risk of malfunctions.
The aim of the invention is to avoid these disadvantages and to propose a device of the type mentioned at the outset which is largely insensitive to foreign bodies which have penetrated and which is distinguished by a simple structure.
According to the invention, this is achieved in that the reading shaft along the magnetic strip of the inserted card is open at the bottom and the stop is formed by a switch connected to and controlling the electrical drive device, the drive device having an eccentric connected to the read head via a connecting rod and the reading head is guided over its entire movement path along a running rail extending over the reading shaft. This results in a very simple structure, with sufficiency being found with relatively few moving parts. The fact that the stop is formed by a switch controlling the drive also contributes to this.
These measures, as well as the fact that the reading shaft is completely open at the bottom, and therefore all foreign objects brought in through the introductory vent fall out downwards and liquids that enter can also flow downward, make a significant contribution to the device being insensitive to the ingress of foreign bodies and that the functionality of the device according to the invention is not impaired by such.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is described below with reference to the drawing, for example. The drawing is an oblique view schematically shown from below.
The drawing shows the device according to the invention for automatically reading check cards or the like in the idle state without a card inserted. If such a card --2-- with the applied magnetic strips --3-- is inserted into the device through the insertion slot-l-, it is inserted through the card guide rails --4-- and through the side walls --5-- limited upwards and downwards and laterally in such a way that only a forward or backward movement is possible.
If the card --2-- comes to a stop at a switch --6--, this is activated and switches on the motor --7--, which --8-- by a known electrical device, turns a full turn Drive wheel --9--, which transmits its power to the reading unit via the bearing bushes --10 and the drive tappet --11-- and the angle --12--, the bearing bushes --13--, the pressure ball bearing - -14--, the read head holding plate --15-- and the read head --16-- to move forward on the running rail --17--, which is most advanced when the drive wheel --9-- half a turn the reading head --16-- is closest to the insertion slot-l-.
Immediately afterwards there is a backward movement of the reading unit, which consists of the angle --12--, the bearing bushes --13--, the pressure ball bearing --14--, the reading head holding plate --15-- and the reading head --16-- exists until the drive wheel --9-- has completed a complete revolution and has returned to the starting position or rest position.
The mass of the stroke of the drive wheel --9-- as well as the power conversion by the drive

plungers --11-- are, of course, selected so that the reading head --16-- scans exactly the places where the data is stored on credit cards or similar cards with magnetic stripes.
As usual, the reading head --16-- is spring-loaded to compensate for bumps caused by unevenness. The pressure generated by this spring-loaded bearing is absorbed by the ball bearing --14--. In all of these processes, the reading shaft --18-- remains completely open at the bottom.
