EMI1.1

<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
Fig. 9 stellt schematisch eine derartige Anordnung dar.

EMI1.1
The invention relates to a lighting system for railway trains, by means of gas or electric lamps, which are lit or extinguished with the aid of electric motors, to which an electric current can be supplied from one point in any direction. The invention consists in that the shaft of the rotatable armature of each motor is connected to a device regulating a lamp or group of lamps, e.g. B. gas tap or electrical switch is connected by an intermediate device which has a pin and slot or other, a limited empty movement permitting connection.
Each time the motor is started, its shaft or a part connected to it is therefore moved before the lamp control device is actuated, so that the driving force of the rotatable armature and the parts connected to it is used to achieve rapid and safe actuation of the taps or switches.
The intermediate device can also be actuated by hand independently of the associated electric motor in such a way that the electric motor can run without moving the mechanism by which the intermediate device is operated by hand.

FIG. 4 is a front view of the control switch with the cover and other parts removed, and FIG. 5 is a cross-section along line AA of FIG. 4. FIG. 10 shows a central longitudinal section and FIG. 11 shows an end view of a sliding coupling for the line conductors, while FIG. 12 shows a plan view and FIG. 13 shows a side view with parts removed, showing another form of coupling.
In the arrangement shown in FIGS. 1-6, a cock b is switched into the gas supply pipe a at one end of each passenger car, which in one position allows the passage of a

EMI1.4
the disk f is connected by screws n, which go through arcuate slots o of the disk f, are screwed into the fixed disk w and whose heads prevent the loose disk, f from moving on the shaft g.
The pin e and another pin r protruding from the disc / 'lie in the plane of a fixed stop s, so that the shaft g and the washers f, w can only make a partial rotation. The arrangement is such that when the engine h is started, its shaft g idles with respect to the loose disc f until the pins 11 of the disc m come into contact with the ends of the arcuate slots o, at which time the driving force is sufficient, that the pins n hit the ends of the slot vigorously and the plug of the cock b, which is connected to the loose disk f, is suddenly and quickly switched.
In order to be able to adjust the cock b independently of the motor A by hand if desired, the lever arm c is provided with another arm t attached to it, which extends upward between two stop pins u which protrude from a rod which is in on the relevant wagon front wall mounted bearings w can slide and at their ends hand-

handles a-carries, by means of which it can be moved from each side of the car in the usual way with train lighting systems. Springs y, which are wound around the slide rod v between pins z of the same and the inner bearings w, bring the rod into its central position after each displacement.
The pins u of the slide rod v are so far apart that when the rod is in its normal or central position, they lie outside the path of the arm t, so that the cock b can be rotated in any direction by the motor h without the Arm t hits the pens.
The gas tap b, the motor h and the connections are arranged in a housing 1 which penetrates the slide rod v and is fastened to one end wall of the car.
The. The above-mentioned electric motors of the various passenger cars of a train are all in a circuit, which also has a suitable power generator (for example a suitable battery or a magneto-electric power generator, which can be operated by hand or in another way and a current as desired in one or the other Direction can supply, or another source of electricity), which is housed together with the control or operating means in the company car or at any other desired location, the arrangement being such that a current can be sent through the circuit in any direction what purpose, if necessary, a switch can be provided.
In the arrangement described, three lines 2, 3, 4 run along the train (Fig. 6): the armature windings 5 of the various motors h are connected in parallel to lines 2 and 3 and to the third line 4 and earth, through the wheels of the Train, the field windings 6, also in parallel. A switch 7 is used with four pairs of fixed contacts 8-15 which are arranged in sets of two pairs. Each set of contacts can be bridged at the same time by two movable contacts M, which are each connected by an insulated cross bar 17, which sits on a push rod 18 (Fig. 4,5). A spring 19 holds the push rod 18 normally in its outside! where the circuit is broken.
The transverse bar 17 is provided with two holes 20, one on each side of the push rod 18, through which pins M (FIG. 4) attached to the switch plate are inserted so that the rod and the pair of contacts carried by it thereby guided and prevented from turning. The electricity sequence is a secondary battery 22 (FIG. 6), one pole of which is connected to earth and the other pole of which is connected to the fixed contacts 8 and 12.
EMI2.1
In the arrangement shown in FIG. 8, the motors h are connected to the electricity generator 22 in a similar manner as in the arrangement illustrated in FIG. T, but instead of permanent magnets exciting the armature windings, electromagnets are used which are driven by windings 6 own power generator 26 are excited.
In order to control the circuit ie its field windings 6, two fixed additional contacts 27 and one movable additional contact 16 are provided for each set of fixed contacts of the switch 7, which can bridge them so that if the armature circuit is interrupted and closed, also the
Field magnetic circuit is interrupted and closed.

If a power generator corresponding to a magneto-electric machine of the type mentioned is used, current can be sent in any direction through the motor circuit by rotating the machine in the required direction; in this case a switch is unnecessary. 9 schematically shows such an arrangement. 30 is a magneto-electric machine which is arranged in the driver's cab and can be driven at will in any direction by means of a handwheel 31, so that the current drawn therefrom is passed in one direction or the other through lines 32 can be fed to the motors h, which are of the permanent magnet type and can switch the gas taps b as desired.
If electric lamps are used, the motors h can be arranged in such a way that they actuate changeover switches which turn the lamps on and off in the desired manner. Such an arrangement is particularly suitable for trains in which each of the various passenger cars is provided with light from a light source corresponding to it and carried by it.
Between the various passenger cars of a train, the line or lines can be rounded by means of a sliding coupling of any suitable type, for example by means of a coupling according to FIGS. 10 and 11, or according to FIGS. 12 and 13. The coupling shown in FIGS. 10 and 11 has a socket part 33 and a plug-in part 34, which can be brought into engagement with one another. An isolated pin or pins 35 of a coupling part with which or which the line or lines of a passenger car are electrically connected can, respectively. can engage in an insulated metal sleeve or sleeves 36 of the other coupling part, which BEZW with the line line. Lines of the other passenger car is electrically connected.
The lines are arranged such that each line of one car is connected to the corresponding line of the other car.
If three line lines are provided, as in the electrical arrangement just described, the coupling can be similar to the known Westinghouse brake pipe coupling. In this case, the three line ends are arranged transversely to the longitudinal axis of the train in such a way that in the coupled position the upper end is always that of the first line line. Figures 12 and 13 illustrate such a coupling; 38, 39 and 40 mean three line ends.
Instead of special couplings for the line lines, the usual sliding couplings, which are used to connect the supply line of the Westinghouae brake, are used, which are equipped with isolated pin and sleeve contacts with which the line lines are connected accordingly.
