<Desc/Clms Page number 3>
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>

The invention relates to a lawn mower with a housing which is closed at the top and which can be moved above the floor and in which a carrier rotatable about a central axis is provided for at least two driven disc knives which are arranged at a distance from one another and at the same distance from the carrier axis, and with a Drive motor for the rotary movement of the carrier and the disc knife.
A mower is known from AT-PS No. 259919, with driven knives rotating on a knife carrier around an approximately vertical axis of rotation, lying essentially horizontally, and rotating on said knife carrier about an axis located outside of its axis of rotation and parallel to this are stored and inevitably driven in the manner of an epicyclic gear, the knife carrier relative to the device on the one hand and the knife relative to the knife carrier on the other hand being driven with the same direction of rotation. With this arrangement, each knife disc works for itself; it must therefore run at high speed to ensure a quick cut.
US Pat. No. 3, 455, 094 shows a mowing device for cereal stalks, in which two knife bells are held pressed against one another, the edges of the end faces forming the cutting edges. The known device also has feeder devices in the form of endless chains which are equipped with drive pins, so that the blades are combined in such a way that they can only get into the area between the two disc knives where the two knives overlap. The rest of the knives are covered by the feeding device. A similar arrangement is shown in U.S. Patent No. 974,358.
US Pat. No. 2,625,784 shows a mowing device consisting of circular saw blades, in which the individual circular saw blades overlap, but do not lie against one another in the overlapping area; all saw blades are driven in the same direction of rotation.
GB-PS No. 653, 983 discloses an arrangement with overlapping disc knives which are driven in opposite directions, but these knives are at different heights (page 2, lines 64-67), are therefore not in contact with one another and are not pressed against one another , so that an uneven cut is created, which is due on the one hand to the different height of the knife and on the other hand to the cutting resistance given simply by the stiffness of the straws.
Compared to the known, the lawn mower of the type mentioned at the outset differs in that at least one circular counter knife is provided, with which the disc knives work together in a manner known per se to form an edge overlap and in the overlap area held together in the axial direction, provided that several counter knives each disk knife is assigned its own counter knife, also mounted on the rotatable carrier. In this way, the disc knives can be driven at a much lower speed, since the formation of a pull-in wedge gap with the counter knife effectively forms a support for the grass drawn into the wedge gap by the movement of the disc knife.
It was by no means foreseeable that such cutting devices, which work with disc knives which overlap one another when they lie against one another, without any guidance or pull-in device, even with soft stalks, which, moreover, usually only slightly protrude beyond the cutting height, a clean cut, like he did expected in lawns.
The lawn mower designed according to the invention is simple in construction, robust in construction and inexpensive to manufacture.
Further details of the invention and its advantages with regard to the mode of operation and the special results which are obtained by its application will become apparent from the following description with reference to the drawings, in which preferred embodiments of the invention are explained.
1 shows a section through this embodiment of the invention, FIG. 2 shows an associated bottom view, FIG. 3 shows a section similar to FIG. 1 of another embodiment of the invention, FIG. 4 shows a cross section through another lawn mower, FIG. 5 shows a associated bottom view, partially in section, FIG. 6 a section similar to FIG. 4 of a further variant according to the invention, FIG. 7 an associated bottom view, FIG. 8 a section similar to FIG. 4 through another embodiment, FIG. 9 the associated Bottom view, FIGS. 10 and 11
<Desc / Clms Page number 2>
and FIGS. 12 and 13 each show a cross section or an associated bottom view of two further variants according to the invention.
1 shows an exemplary embodiment of the invention, in which for two disk knives --la-a counter knife --1b '- on a shaft --4b' - for rotation from a drive motor --7 '- is arranged, the motor drives the shaft --4b, - via meshing gears --138'and 6 '-. The shaft --4b '- also carries a sun gear --5b' -, which drives two planet gears --5a-- to drive two shafts --4a-- which carry the two separate disc knives --la-- . These knives --la-- each overlap a section of the edge --2b '- of the counter disk knife --lb' -.
In this embodiment, the support part --A "- carries a rotatable holder part --B--, which receives the planetary gears --5a--, and furthermore has a lower bearing for the shaft --4b '-. Transmission gears --12a--
EMI2.1
rotate and rotate around a central gearwheel --13--, which is fixed on the support part --A "-.
In this embodiment, each of the three knives --la and lb '- is rotated, and in addition the two knives --la-- run with their edges --2a--, which are provided with recesses or slots --3-- , along the edge-2b'-the knife-lb'-um. A lawn mower constructed in this way has an effective cutting width --n-- as shown in Fig. 1. The arrangement of the gear ratio for the knives --la and 1b '- is shown in Fig. 2.
Fig. 3 shows another embodiment of the knife arrangement, in which a disc knife --la-- is arranged so that it works with upper and lower cutting disc-lb "and lc" - as counter knife, which rotatably on a common shaft --4b "- are attached and have edges --2b" and 2c "-, which with the upper and lower edge --2a'bzw.
2a "- of the disc knife --1a-- work together. In this version, at least the upper cutting disc --lb" - can be adjusted in the direction of engagement with the disc knife --1a-- and is under pressure (spring - 10--).
4 and 5 show a practical embodiment of the invention on a lawnmower, which has a frame --A--, which is closed on the sides and above, but which has an open bottom with a cutting device on a support part, which as Whole is labeled --B--. This support part --B-- extends downwards through the open floor in a position so that the grass is cut off at a height above the ground, which is determined by the setting of the wheels --18--. The cut grass is blown out by rotating the cutter through an outlet --17-- on the side of the frame --A--. The lawnmower can have self-propelled wheels --18--, or it can be pulled or pushed using a handle --19--.
In this embodiment, the support part --B-- consists of a rotatable wing with radially protruding arm parts, which support radially spaced shafts --4a and 4b--, each for a disc knife --la-- and a counter knife -lb-. In this version, drive gearwheels --5a and 5b-- are in engagement with a transmission gearwheel --12--, and the supporting part --B-- is in turn turned by engagement with a fixed gearwheel --13--, which is located in the middle part of the Frame --A-- and concentric to the axis of rotation of the support part --B-- is formed.
The motor --7-- drives a gear --6-- via a pinion --138-- on the motor shaft to set a shaft --14-- in rotation, so that the support part --B-- in the by the arrow-t; : - rotates in the direction indicated in Fig. 5. This causes the disks to be knife -la and lb-rotated, with their circumferential edges being in sliding engagement with one another and having opposite directions of rotation. This arrangement permits the mowing of a lawn with a sufficient cut in an area which is indicated in FIG. 4 with --0--.
The drive gearwheels --5a, 5b and 12a, 13-- are dimensioned such that the peripheral speed t, of the cutting disks --la and lb is greater than the peripheral speed t2 of the supporting part --B--. As a result, the grass material that is drawn in between the disc knives-la and lb-can be cut off before it gets there by the rotation of the support part --B--, so that the mowing of the Lawn is achieved.
In addition, as a result of the rotation of the support part --B-- air is drawn through the
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
Apron part --15-- of the frame --A-- pulled into the gap between the frame floor and the floor, so that a wind pressure is created which pulls the blades of grass to be cut upwards and prevents them from being turned over. This effect can be intensified if the apron part --15-- of the frame --A-- is arranged near its circumferential bottom edge and is provided with an inwardly drawn-in edge --16-- which protrudes inwards by about 5 to 10 mm or if it is rounded inwards. The cut lawn can also be vigorously transported outwards through the outlet --17--. Suitable collectors or sacks can be arranged at the outlet for this purpose.
A further embodiment of the invention is shown in FIGS. 6 and 7, in which there are two rotatable support parts B'and B "which rotate in the same direction of rotation in separately formed parts of the housing. The support members B'and B "- but can also rotate in the same direction. The timing of the rotation is such that they can rotate together without hitting each other, although they have a length at which their outer ends overlap in their rotation paths.
The individual disc knives which are used in the embodiments FIGS. 1 to 7 preferably have a diameter of 3 to 5 cm in order to ensure that the cutting process is uniform. However, cutting knives of different shapes can be attached, as in the embodiments described below.
According to the embodiment according to FIGS. 8 and 9, the frame --A--, which is similar to the frame in the constructions of the other embodiments, has a central attachment for a motor --M--, which the usual drive shaft - 138--, which drives a gear --6-- on a rotating shaft --150--, which in turn carries a rotatable support frame part --B--. The rotatable support frame part --B-- has rotating shafts --4a and 4b-- on each arm part of a pair of arms, the arms extending in opposite radial directions.
In this embodiment, a plurality of disk knives --la-- are provided, which are arranged such that they can rotate, their circumferential edges sliding overlapping them along an annular surface which is formed by a counter knife --lc-- fixed to the frame. The fixed knife-lo-has an annular cutting edge --2c--, which works together with the cutting edge --2a-- of the rotating disc knife --la--.
In the embodiment according to FIGS. 10 and 11 there is an arrangement similar to that according to FIGS. 8 and 9, with the exception that the fixed counter knife - lc-- is designed as a central disk.
Instead of a gear drive, the drive for the knives can be a friction drive, as is shown in the embodiment according to FIGS. 12 and 13, the motor rotating --7-- a carrier plate --B-- which a plurality of Disc knife --la-- and a majority of the counter knife --lb-- carries. These knives --la and Ib- are arranged on their respective shafts --4a and 4b-- and are located at radially spaced locations on each side of a central friction ring --21--. Each shaft --4a-- carries a roller --20a--, which acts on one side of the friction ring --21--, and each shaft --4b-- carries a roller --20b--, which acts on the outer Side of the ring lies --21--.
Rotation of the support plate --B-- causes the individual rollers --20a and 20b-- to be taken along on the associated sides of the ring --21--. Since the rollers --20a and 20b-- are --21- on the sides of the ring assigned to them, they are rotated in different directions and at slightly different speeds.
The invention provides an arrangement that provides a clean lawn finish as well as effective and quick mowing without any unevenness due to mowing or damage to the grass. In addition, the knives are not exposed to very large loads. The cutting device can be driven by a motor such as an internal combustion engine or a low power electric drive motor, and this makes it possible to obtain an inexpensive and safe device. The invention makes it possible to cut the grass even when the rotational speed of the rotating support member is less than 10 m / s; therefore it has a high level of security.
The invention
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
enables grass cutting as long as the knife and rotating support are rotating, and it does not matter how slowly they rotate. The construction of the lawnmower is simple and cheap to manufacture.
Although only certain embodiments of the invention have been shown and described to illustrate the application of the essence of the invention, the invention can be embodied in other ways.
