Unter gutem Rühren giesst man die Mischung in die 20fache Menge konzentrierter Salzsäure, die sich nach dem angewendeten Tannin berechnet. Nach einigem Stehen wird mit Wasser verdünnt und der Niederschlag abfiltriert, gut ausgewaschen und getrocknet.
Man erhält so : o) Tannin-Phenol-Methanal, ein lockered, weissliches Pulver, das unlöslich in Alkohol, löslich in Alkalien ist ; es schmilzt. noch nicht bei 2400. b) Tannin-Thymol-Methan ist ein schwach gefärbtes, geruchloses Pulver, das in Alkohol sehr leicht löslich ist und mit Wasser, daraus nicht gefällt werden kann Es ist in Alkalien löslich und schmilzt unter Zersetzung bei etwa 2350. An Stelle des Tannins lassen sich auch seine Bromsubstitutionsprodukte verwenden.

Obiges Verfahren lässt sich in gewissem Sinne abändern. Für Tannin lassen sieh Gerbstoffe anderer Herkunft anwenden. Ebenso lassen sich die erwähnten Oxy Verbindungen durch Homologe und Analoge ersetzen. Die Präparate sollen zu therapeutischen Zwecken Verwendung finden.
