a certain value, the shoulder 28 of the segment 21 rests against the segment 25, so that the shaft 26 is coupled to the shaft 5 without the intermediary of the spring. The purpose of such a device is to prevent a spring break in the event that the load exceeds a certain size; the relative position of the two pins 22 and 24 changes according to the load on the shaft to be driven. The distance between the journals therefore remains unchanged if the load on the shaft 26 does not change.
The switching lever of the commutator must be operated in such a way that the number of divisions of the field magnet of the receiver switched into the circuit in
EMI2.2
for this purpose the segment 21 forms a hollow cylinder which receives a hollow shaft 30; the latter is connected to segment 21 in such a way that it is subject to rotation
EMI2.3
with a nut 32 which is fastened to the segment 25.
If the shafts 5 and 26 rotate at the same speed, there is no change in the relative position of the thread 31 with respect to the nut 32, since both parts rotate at the same speed. Assuming, however, that the shaft 5 rotates at a certain constant speed while the load on the shaft 26 changes, the tension of the spring 23 changes and, as a result, the relative position of the shaft 26 with respect to the shaft 5 changes This also results in a rotation of the nut 32 with respect to the thread 31; but since the nut cannot adjust itself in the longitudinal direction, a longitudinal displacement of the thread takes place.
The actuation of the switching lever of the commutator could be achieved directly, for example with the aid of a cuff or the like connected to the thread; However, such a device is disadvantageous insofar as the resulting movement is very slight, so that it is not possible to obtain a sufficiently large adjustment of the switching lever 9 of the commutator in this way without a complicated construction.
The size of the screw movement can be multiplied in the following way: On one part of the hollow shaft 30 there is an identical thread with the same pitch, but in such a way that it runs in the opposite direction. This part of the shaft works
EMI2.4
The way this device works is as follows:
If the thread 31 is rotated with respect to the nut. . so this has a certain displacement, for example such in the sense of the arrow of the thread, according to '/ 1; it therefore becomes the mother. 94 in any case experienced a displacement of the same magnitude as that of the thread and in the same sense; But since this nut sits on the thread 33 and rotates in relation to the latter, there is a further displacement of this nut in the direction of this arrow and of the same size as the original displacement. The nut carries a sleeve 18 with which the switching lever 9 of the commutator is in engagement.
It can be seen that the extent to which the
Twisting takes place, the longitudinal displacement is the same as the angle of inclination of the thread
45 is. However, other angles of inclination can also be selected as required.
In the device according to FIG. 3, the nut 34 assumes the outermost position corresponding to the rest position. The shift lever 9 forms contact with the in this case
Lamella dz When the motor is started, the resistance of the activated field windings immediately has a value that corresponds to the start-up and at the same time the switch lever switches the required number of field magnet sections into the circuit so that start-up goes smoothly . The resistance is then reduced and the commutator switch lever assumes an intermediate position between the two main positions.
From this moment on, the number of field sections 11 of the receiver that have been switched into the circuit changes automatically, according to the respective requirements.
Fig. 4 illustrates a magnetic control device. ng; the core of the electromagnet, which is used in devices of a similar type to determine the setting of the movable switching lever of the commutator xu, is one through the armature
<Desc / Clms Page number 3>
EMI3.1
The mode of action is as follows:
The current originating from the generator 3 flows through the armature 4, the windings 2 of the field of the dynamo and then the field windings 36, as well as the armature 37 of the auxiliary dynamo 38; the current then passes into the switching lever 9 of the automatic commutator and to the contacts 16, 15, 14, 13, 12 and 11, which throw the armature 6 and several of the field departments of the receiving machine 7 into the circuit.
The latter can be removed from the circuit by setting the switching lever 9 to the contact 10
EMI3.2
Mediation of the gear 39, which is connected to the armature, as well as the rack 40 and, against the action of the spring 41, which is attached to a fixed point 41 ', acts on the switching lever 9 of the commutator in such a way that the required changes in the number of Field divisions that are switched into the circuit can be achieved: strong vibrations can be dampened by a damper 4.2.
The electrical devices (Fig. 4) are based on small changes in the current intensity in the generator with respect to a current intensity J of a certain size. The

B. can be adjusted by a screw 44 such that the relative position of the various contacts with respect to that of the shift lever 9 is changed.
If the device is made in such a way that the position of the switching lever is regulated electrically, the occurrence of the moment of the receiver's call can also be changed in another way, such as that illustrated in FIG.

On the contrary, this resistance becomes
EMI3.6
is pushed, the bridge remains. 50 in the original position; in other words, there is only a coupling between the rail 45 and the bridge 50 when the rail 4, 5 is displaced in the direction of arrow 51.
The mode of action of execution is as follows:
If the circuit is interrupted, then the pressure 5n is in the outer-'ten cleat in the direction of arrow 57 and the number of departments of the dynamo 38 connected to the circuit is as small as possible. However, it is a shift in the
EMI3.7
the bridge 50 can remain in such a position that the number of divisions of the field of the dynamo 38 remaining in the circuit is greater than in the previous case and with the same tension of the spring 41 the intensity of the current which corresponds to a tensile force that maintains its equilibrium, in the second case is smaller than in the first case.
It follows from this that the starting can be achieved with the maximum permissible current and that, when normal running has occurred, the intensity A which corresponds to "starting" can be selected manually by actuating the bridge 5n by moving it against the direction of arrow 51 can be reduced.
With the device described, the regularity of the approach can be ensured to a greater extent. since it is based on the real value of the current flowing through the auxiliary dynamics.
<Desc / Clms Page number 4>
The device described can be used in a variety of ways, including for steam turbines which, for. B. used to drive ships, so that there is always a sufficiently large torque regardless of the momentary changes in the speed of the motor shaft. The devices can be used to actuate the drive axle of trams or main railways.
In the latter case, the embodiment according to FIGS. 7, 8, 9 and 10 is advantageously used.
The automatic commutator can act in such a way that it either changes the circuitry of the fold departments in question or puts a variable number of receivers into operation. In the following, the use of this device at Vollbahnon is considered, provided that the cars are equipped with a certain number of drive axles or groups of drive axles.
If the cars are arranged on bogies, the axles of each bogie are operated by a drive shaft. However, if they are placed on isolated axes, each axis is operated separately. In the embodiment shown in the drawings, only the shafts or drive axles come into consideration, since only these parts contribute to the increase or decrease in the adhesion of the wheels on the rails. For example (Fig. 7 and 8) a generator 3 is driven by a motor 53 and the shafts or drive axles are driven by receivers 71, 72, 73 etc. The first motor axle is driven by the receiver 71 and the generator 3. make, ditto second by the recipient 72, etc.
The first drive shaft is equipped with an automatic commutator, the switching lever 9 of which is on the contacts 10, 10 ', 11, 11' etc. plays.

incoming drive axles is changed; is located e.g. B. the switching lever 9 on the contact 10, the generator 3 is short-circuited so that it acts as a clutch and, since the entire stress is thrown on the first axis, the train travels at high speed; If the switching lever is set to contact 10 ', the current reaches the center of the windings of the receiver 71, which results in a lower speed.

stands is achieved.
Ms follows; from this, that with a motor 53 of very low power, a relatively high speed can be gradually achieved in accordance with the road resistance and the power of the dynamo. The power can also be used to wind up additional resistance by increasing the adhesion of the motorcycles, which is of course achieved when the number of drive axles is increased. but there is a loss of speed.

In the embodiments according to FIGS. 7-10, the receivers are connected in series; in the embodiment discussed last, they would have to be connected in parallel.
