The suction and pressure valves do not differ from one another in any way and each form an independent whole that can be separated from the valve and duct housing without tools; they are sealed against the housing by sealing washers inserted into the recess. All connection channels and openings in the pressure chamber located in the housing are at the highest point, u. betw. in a horizontal plane that intersects the cylinder at right angles.
If the pump is to be activated, the drain valve A is closed, as shown in FIG. 2, the relief valve E is opened and the pump piston is set in motion. During the upward stroke, the piston sucks water into the cylinder on the path indicated by the arrows I through the hose connected to the suction nozzle; this first fills the deepest part of the cylinder, sinking immediately downwards. During the subsequent downward movement of the piston, it displaces the air remaining above the water until it is driven higher and higher by the subsequent piston strokes and finally also completely expelled from the highest horizontal channels.
During the downward stroke of the piston, the water is on the cylinder in the direction of the arrows II through the lianal H, the pressure valve F, the relief space Y and through the open relief valve E into the pressure space R and from here through the pressure pipe D to the pressure object to be tested and pressed through the connection piece M to the pressure gauge. When the desired pressure is reached, the relief valve E is closed, whereby the pressure on the connected sample and the pressure gauge is restricted.
Finally, if this is also to be relieved, the drain valve A is opened and the pressurized water can flow off through the drain space X and the suction tube. After use, the pump is dismantled and housed in the manual cassette together with all accessories.
