neutral or weakly acidic silver nitrate solution, the layer is made photosensitive by the fact that the silver nitrate reacts with the halogen metal incorporated in the layer to form halogen silver. Depending on whether the casein solution has been fixed with chlorides or bromides, the result is less sensitive chlorosilver casein layers that can be copied out or highly sensitive, developable silver bromide casein layers.
Of course, the aids generally known in photochemistry for increasing sensitivity and color sensitivity, as well as the various modifications and combinations of different silver compounds to achieve special effects, can also be included in the process.

phosphate etc.
combine by adding bromides, chromates and phosphates to the chloride bath, or switching on a separate bath containing the entering salts before or after the silver bath, by adding suitable optical (eosine, quinoline red or other dyes) or chemical (alkaloids, tannins, glycosides, etc. .) Sensitizers for acid casein solution or bromide bath, optical sensitization or increased sensitivity can be achieved with silver bromide or silver bromide or silver iodine layers, in short the applicability of the new photographic layer is quite general and not tied to a specific photographic process.
As an example of the application of the new process, the production of a silver copy paper, for which the new process is particularly suitable, will be described below.
800 9 pure milk casein are added to 9 l of water and a solution of 250 g of lemon is added to the heated mixture. acid in 1 liter of water. The mass becomes liquid and opalescent and translucent, and 100-800 q of glycerine are then added and the filter is warm. This solution becomes warm (approx. 35-5 () o) z. B. applied by means of a suitable machine to ordinary or baryte photographic base paper, just like a gelatin emulsion and the coated paper dried on it. The dry paper is then slowly pulled through or over a 3-7% solution of sodium chloride or chlorine oxide, so that the layer is well penetrated by the chloride solution.
Sufficient citric acid remains in the layer in order to produce silver citrate in the correct proportions when the paper is subsequently silvered. The dried one

can be stored for a very long time without losing its good properties. Images copied on it can easily be colored in rhodan or neutral gold baths, also in a clay fixative bath
