The invention relates to an ultrasonic testing device for testing materials for cracks, with a shoe sliding on the material to be tested, carrying the testing device and with cooling and cooling
Contact water supply and a pre-cooling opening is equipped.
In devices of this type, the pre-cooling when testing materials with high temperature, e.g. B. hot rolled materials, a boil used as a contact medium for the ultrasonic coupling
Liquid can be prevented. The aim is to keep the pre-cooling temperature below the critical surface temperature for the ultrasonic coupling, which is 125 C for liquids.
In a known device of the type specified in the introduction, the cooling and contact water is a
Pre-cooling opening supplied, which has a smooth top surface. The cooling water flow runs along the top surface parallel to this and to the material to be tested. This flow course initially has the consequence that the water flows freely outwards from under the test device over the workpiece, so that a limitation of the cooling to the area to be tested is impossible and a considerable amount
Loss of cooling water results. Since the cooling water spreads far over the material to be tested, the bubbles and water vapor generated by the high temperature of the material have a detrimental effect on the functionality and performance of the test device.
This is because these bubbles and the water vapor generate noise in the ultrasound area. In order to avoid the bubbles and the water vapor, a considerable amount of cooling water is required, with the result that the material is cooled more than is necessary for the test. This cooling has a negative effect on the mechanical properties of the material.
The aim of the invention is to create, while avoiding the disadvantages outlined above, an ultrasonic testing device which is highly effective and powerful and enables perfect cooling of the area of the material surface to be tested. In a test device of the type specified in the introduction, this object is achieved in that the top surface of the pre-cooling opening is sawtooth-shaped.
This design of the top surface of the pre-cooling opening gives the cooling water a turbulent flow, which makes it possible to restrict the water flow and thus the cooling of the material to the area to be tested, so that the high pressure and the high flow rate of the cooling water only occur at the cooling surface are effective. The occurrence of bubbles and water vapor is not possible with turbulent flow under high pressure and with a high flow velocity. Therefore, the test function is not impaired, so that the device shows high effectiveness and performance.
In addition, with the test device according to the invention, the cooling can be carried out with comparatively little water, so that the tested material is heated again immediately after the pre-cooling and the mechanical properties of the material are not impaired.
The invention is explained in more detail below using an exemplary embodiment with reference to the drawing, which shows a longitudinal section through a test device according to the invention.

--2-- in - 1-- and the material to be examined - 9 -. Between the shoe - 1 - and the cover --11-- a water storage chamber --5-- with a nozzle part --6-- is formed. The contact water inlet - 3 - is connected to the crack opening - 2 - via a further water storage chamber --15 - which is formed between the rear part of the shoe - 1 - and the cover - 11- is.
The cooling water inlet - 4 - and the contact water inlet - 3 - can also be combined in a modified embodiment.
When using the device, the shoe - l - slides on the material to be tested - 9--. That the
EMI1.2
material to be examined --9-- is formed. The increase in the flow velocity in the nozzle part - 6 - results in a turbulent flow of the cooling water in the cooling opening-7-, a stable turbulent flow being maintained by the sawtooth-shaped design of the top surface. This means that the flow rate of the cooling water changes to a great extent depending on the sawtooth-shaped surface. The speed is high in converging zones and low in diverging zones, so that a vortex flow is formed.
The effect of the cooling achieved with the device according to the invention is much stronger than with known devices and no bubbles are generated. Since the pre-cooling device and the crack testing device are connected to one another in the described device, this prevents the temperature of the material to be examined from rising again after the cooling water has been applied.
